(no subject)

We are thinking Rachel. Too common?

[identity profile] amyames.livejournal.com 2006-06-23 04:51 pm (UTC)(link)
i think rachel is beautiful.
i know many rachel's my age (26) but haven't heard it much for babies.

[identity profile] heure-actuelle.livejournal.com 2006-06-23 04:53 pm (UTC)(link)
well it is a pretty common name..but i don't think that should really be a factor. i just believe you should name your child what you want and not worry about if it's popular or not, if your family will like it, etc.

[identity profile] ewaeva.livejournal.com 2006-06-23 04:58 pm (UTC)(link)
I think it's great - classic and timeless, so it won't sound dated in a few years or scream "2006 baby!" I actually only know one Rachel... it's not THAT common.

[identity profile] sotypical42483.livejournal.com 2006-06-23 06:33 pm (UTC)(link)
exactly, you can hear the name Rachel and not pinpoint when she was born. Unlike all the Aiden and Jaiden and Brayden's being born - everyone knows those people are under 5.

[identity profile] so-there.livejournal.com 2006-06-24 01:25 am (UTC)(link)
jaiden and brayden, maybe, but there are some Aidens as old as 9!

[identity profile] amberatcmu.livejournal.com 2006-06-24 04:48 am (UTC)(link)
Well I know an Aiden who is 22...so you cant always tell...and my cousin is hayden and he is 15

[identity profile] sotypical42483.livejournal.com 2006-06-25 12:23 am (UTC)(link)
okay, there are exceptions to every rule. in general, if you hear of someone called hayden or brayden or jayden or cayden, you can bet they're no older than 5.

[identity profile] missamerican.livejournal.com 2006-06-25 07:20 pm (UTC)(link)
Maybe so for all the others, generally at least, but Hayden is actually quite a popular older name. Maybe more of a last name in earlier years, though.

I've always loved Rachel. I think it's a wonderful choice, and you can use a less common middle name with it if you'd like.

[identity profile] ifancylust.livejournal.com 2006-06-23 05:33 pm (UTC)(link)
meh. it's okay.

[identity profile] seren.livejournal.com 2006-06-23 05:50 pm (UTC)(link)
i really like both rachel and rachael. i don't think they're too common - i've met quite a few rach(a)els in their twenties, but no baby rachels. as someone said above, it's a timeless name, which is good :)

[identity profile] macabre.livejournal.com 2006-06-23 06:04 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm partial to it, haha. My daughter is named Rachel Lynn

[identity profile] darabelle.livejournal.com 2006-06-23 06:11 pm (UTC)(link)
I think if you both love it, it's an excellent choice. =)

[identity profile] hygher.livejournal.com 2006-06-23 06:23 pm (UTC)(link)
It's my name. I know it was popular in the 70's and a little bit in the late 80's but not so much any more. I really like my name.

[identity profile] sotypical42483.livejournal.com 2006-06-23 06:32 pm (UTC)(link)
I love it! It's not too common. Too common is Emma and Claire and Isabella. Rachel is nice :)

[identity profile] tesslouise.livejournal.com 2006-06-25 05:16 am (UTC)(link)
Or you can borrow my parents' friends' baby's name: Rachel Isabel. :)

[identity profile] sotypical42483.livejournal.com 2006-06-25 09:47 pm (UTC)(link)
that's adorable!

[identity profile] maude.livejournal.com 2006-06-23 06:46 pm (UTC)(link)
I love it, it's so classic. And I only know one Rachel, who is twelve or thirteen, so I think it's not very popular/common anymore. :)

[identity profile] cathkitten.livejournal.com 2006-06-23 07:34 pm (UTC)(link)
I think its lovely and I even like it spelled Rachael.

I don't think its too common, especially now that Friends has been off air a while.

What middle names are you thinking of?

[identity profile] timed.livejournal.com 2006-06-23 08:39 pm (UTC)(link)
I like it a lot. It's a cute name.

[identity profile] dingo83.livejournal.com 2006-06-23 09:26 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't feel like it's that common. I also have mixed feelings about the name, because of personal associations, but I don't think it's a bad name at all.

[identity profile] greenstripe.livejournal.com 2006-06-23 09:43 pm (UTC)(link)
I've only known one rachel but everyone called her Roach-el so that's all i ever think of when i hear it. :/

[identity profile] invisiblepet.livejournal.com 2006-06-23 10:12 pm (UTC)(link)
Love it. Gonna use it one day. Know more people in their 20s and 30s named that than teens/younger kids. I think it's classic and beautiful.

[identity profile] heyitsrebecca.livejournal.com 2006-06-23 11:05 pm (UTC)(link)
I think it's gorgeous! =)

[identity profile] solyma.livejournal.com 2006-06-23 11:38 pm (UTC)(link)
i'm not a huge fan of rachel. my middle name is richelle and i like that a lot better. *shrug*

[identity profile] secret-x-stars.livejournal.com 2006-06-23 11:45 pm (UTC)(link)
i like Rachel, but if you're afraid it's too common or whatever, 'Rochelle' could be a nice alternative?

[identity profile] shyloh.livejournal.com 2006-06-24 01:08 pm (UTC)(link)
I think Rachel is a pretty name. I was reading the other comments about it being a timeless name and I thought the daycare I work at and in the nine years I have been there, I have never had a child named Rachel. I think its a good choice.

[identity profile] anapology.livejournal.com 2006-06-24 02:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes yes yes. I detest Rachel. Too common & boring.

[identity profile] anapology.livejournal.com 2006-06-24 02:46 pm (UTC)(link)
OKay after reading that people dont know that many Rachels.. well maybe i know an overly ridiculous amount! I do know SO many though...

[identity profile] sherball.livejournal.com 2006-06-25 02:53 am (UTC)(link)
I think it's a beautiful name :)

[identity profile] cassandrakfreaq.livejournal.com 2006-06-25 04:18 am (UTC)(link)
I have a whore of a cousin named rachel so I hate it BUT I think if i didn't know here I might like it lol

[identity profile] missamerican.livejournal.com 2006-06-25 07:23 pm (UTC)(link)
My close friend named her girl Rachel Madison. I absolutely love it.
I also like Rachel Marie. :)

[identity profile] jenniferdunn.livejournal.com 2006-06-26 03:09 am (UTC)(link)
It's a pretty name for sure, but if you're asking about how common it is, I can count how many Rachel's I know on both hands, and maybe a few toes.. so yes, common. Not a bad name in the least though.
