Mexico's take-no-crap poster & a dozen Mexican girls names I like

I went to register my son in order to get him his birth certificate here in Mexico (he was born here in Mexico, 5 weeks ago). And while I was there, I saw a poster taped to the wall of the waiting room that I found rather interesting and thought maybe you would too...

First, here it is in as wriiten in Spanish, sans accents and "enyes"

Respeten mi identidad de ser mexicano: 
Ponganme un solo nombre que sea facil de pronunciar y de escribir. Con esto me evitaran problemas futuros con documentos personales de uso oficial.
Porque soy, porque me siento.
Orgullosomente Mexiquense
Recuerdan papas Mi nombre es para siempre.

Repect my Mexican identity
Give me a name that is easy to pronounce and spell. That way I will avoid future problems on documents that are for future use  with the Mexican bureaucracy.
Because I am, because I feel.

Remember parents: My name is forever.

It then lists over 200 name suggestions!

Perhaps something that should be hung in civil registries everywhere?

Same problem here. Jane is at the top of my list, but unfortunately my husband's x-gf named her daughter that.. it was on my list b4 I even met my SO! oh well

My dad was engaged to another girl before he married my mom. She now has a daughter and son with the same names as me and my brother. Make of that what you will.

I know, right? The names is this country are atrocious. And I'm not even talking things like Jayden or Madison (because those are semi-tolerable), but things with apostrophes and horrible misspellings.

While I don't like kre8tyv names, I also don't think it's the governments place to try and influence what you name your child or offer "appropriate" suggestions.

Well, they are not actually making any suggestions, they are saying 'don't screw up'. They are not saying 'name your kid xxxx'.

I personally don't like Danilu and María José even though I think I know why the latter is on the list. Frankly I think a lot of people would welcome a list of baby name ideas. Isn't that why there are so many books on the subject? It'd be different if the government tried to mandate choosing a name from the list though.

I really like that poster. It ought to be hung in American hospitals, so parents see it before filling out the birth certificate.

Jane is interesting because it would transition so well to an Anglo community, if she didn't mind a whole new pronunciation. I really like Alejandra and Ariadna. Also Perla and Esperanza, but only with the Spanish accent!

Luz is lovely in Spanish but does not transition well to an Anglo community. It would be constantly mispronounced Luh-z (rhymes with buzz), which is ugly. I knew a girl in elementary school named Luz; we called her Fuzzy Luzzy because of her frizzy hair. (Rotten of us, but kids do that.) And the proper pronunciation makes it sound like "loose," as in a "loose woman"... not a great connotation.

Every year I'm surprised by the new and different Mexican names I learn (I'm a teacher in Phoenix, Arizona). Just the other day there was an Itzayanna (can't remember how it was spelled after the Y). Seeing kids' work posted, I'm starting to wonder if the creative spelling is starting to happen - I'd give an example but my mind fails me at the moment.

I have an Ariadna in my class. I love that name as well as Nayeli.
