Reese, because Rhys is "rice".

Rhys has always been the 'male' form for me.

I prefer Rhys for a boy because when I see Reese I think of Reese Witherspoon and Reeses Peanut Butter Cups.

Pretty much this.

I would use Reese on a girl, well I wouldn't because I don't personally like it much for a girl, but if I was going to call a girl Reese, that's how I would spell it. But it would look really odd on a boy to me.

Agreed, I'd go with Rhys.

I don't like either. Rhys is like Rice or, I don't even know, and the child would constantly be correcting people on the spelling and that can get old when everyone constantly misspells and mispronouces your name. And Reese, I either think of the kid from Malcom in the Middle or my childhood pet rabbit. Plus, to me it sounds like half a name, like it's 5 letters long yet not complete...not enough syllables.

(please excuse any typoes, my keyboard is acting funny)

Rhys for boys, Reese for girls. And since I like it better for boys, I'd say in the end, I like Rhys better!

Honestly the reason I read the comments to this post was to figure out how Rhys is actually pronounced! I always see people naming their boys this in print and couldn't figure out how you would pronounce it other than Rice maybe. I don't like it as a name much at all, but I guess I would go for Reese strictly because of the spelling nightmare.

I honestly thought Rhys was pronounced "riss" until I saw this post.

So...I vote Reese.

Rhys. Even though the spelling always feels like it's missing a letter.

Rhys. If the spelling/pronunciation are going to be a problem I don't think it should be used. I'm not a huge fan of anglicising spellings.

love this comment and... maybe it's the multiple languages in me but how do people even get Rice? yes 'y' would be pronounced like that but it has the H and S breaking it up... oh well...

I don't get Rice when I read it...I get like, Wrist without the t.

See, this is what I mean about not using names in situations where spelling/pronunciation is a problem for people. Welsh speakers can pronounce it (and Welsh is beautifully logically phonetic so that makes it easier). Knowledge of Welsh phonology isn't tremendously common outside Wales, afaik, making Welsh names an iffy choice for many people. The same goes for Irish names.

Reece, actually! But between those two choices, Rhys. I love Reese, too, but it seems more feminine to me.

Rhys, because Reese gets sometimes pronounced as rhyming with "breeze".
Also, Reese Witherspoon made the name sort of unisex, while for me Rhys is strictly masculine!

We're using Rhys for our son, who is due in November. Reese always looks misspelled to me - and it's the name of a candy.
