Which unisex names do you feel shouldn't be unisex?

For example, while the name Logan is used for both boys and girls, you feel it's masculine and should only be used for boys.

There was a woman on Martha Stewart today whose name was Tyler. I didn't like it. Normally I love unisex names, but that one didn't work for me.

I am naming my daughter Ryann, she should be here any day now.

I actually love the name Ryan on a girl. But I read your daughter's name as "Rye-Anne". The extra N gives it a entirely different pronunciation altogether.

Ryan and Dylan should not be unisex, they're boys names.

I used to agree with you on Dylan, until I met one. the name suited her perfectly, and now I'm okay with it as a female name.

I'm sure I have more examples of this but I was just talking to my husband yesterday about the name "Brooklyn". It has two very girly names contained within it, Brook + Lyn yet, so many boys are being named Brooklyn. I blame Posh Spice. Also, as an aside, I hate the name altogether.

Nearly all of them, but especially ones whose meanings are masculine. Like names whose meanings include "son of," like Madison, Addison, and Mackenzie.

Really the only unisex names I prefer on girls or like equally on girls are Meredith, Evelyn, Beverly, and Vivian.

I...didn't even know those fell into the unisex category. Yikes.

Alex and Jordan, I love them for boys only and plan on using them some day. I can get away with Alex for a boy, when used with Alexander. However, I feel as if Jordan has become too widely known as a girl's name and it makes me sad. :(

I can't think of any that I dislike. maybe Logan, but that's it.

I really like a few boys names on girls though, like Kyle and Blake. but that's just me.

Kelly. I know it's originally a boy's name, but since I've known only girls with it, it seems like such a feminine name to me!

Some of these...I don't think they're considered unisex (not yet), but I have seen them on girls.

Logan, Tyler...all the "son of" names like Madison and Addison...Ryan, Dylan, Kyle, Blake, Ryan, James, Shawn, Riley. I'm pretty sure there are more, but this is what I can come up with off the top of my head.

A little of topic, but kind of related to your "son of" comment - I find it odd that Alison is a girls' name, with the obvious "son" suffix.

Kyle also really needs to stay as a boys' name.

Yeah, that's my son's name and I'd never heard it on a girl until one of our first pediatric appointments. The nurse said, "SHE's doing so well" and then became flustered when I corrected her, saying she knew a little girl named Micah. WTF? I thought picking a prophet's name would mean it was safe from the unisex craze. Then again, my boss couldn't even pronounce it and thought I'd made it up. Apparently Old Testament names are not as well known (as far as meaning/origin) as one would think. :P

Hayden

Riley

Blake
Elliott
Kendall

Now that I think about it, the use of the last 2 as female names originated on TV shows (Elliott on Scrubs, Kendall on All My Children). Amazing how fast trends catch on...

I hate pretty much all unisex names.

That said, my pet peeves are Riley and Rory. Riley/Ryley/Ryleigh/Rylee/etc. is an awful name on a boy, but just plain ridiculous on a girl. Rory is a fantastic name--for a man, not a trendy nickname-ish name for a girl.

Also Logan, Elliott/Eliot (I cringe even calling this name "unisex"), Carter/Karter, Blake, Hunter, Cooper, Jamie, Tucker, Tyler, Jordan, Jayden-Hayden-& Kayden, Cameron, Owen, Jesse (spelled like that), Parker, Chandler, and Dylan. All of them are strictly male names.

Yeah, I'm with you. I really dislike unisex names. They tend to be ridiculous on either sex because of the crossing.

I do kind of like Logan on a girl, but all the other examples you've used I just can't stand as names in general, much less as names on girls. Particularly Chandler, Dylan, and the -ayden brigade.

But I do like Blake Lively (not her name, but the actress) and Elliott from Scrubs.

JAMIE. It's a BOYS name. It irks me when I meet a girl called Jamie, or even Jaime or however the hell you spell it. I hate this name on a girl so much.

I agree. For some reason when I meet a girl with that name, it makes me sad. I just want to ask her parents, "Really, that was the best you could do?".

Boy names-- Billy and Bobby. OH MY GODDD. I know they might seem cute on a little girl, but ehnnn.. no. I think I am so turned off by these names because I knew SISTERS named Billy and Bobby and I just wanted to smack the sticky sweet syrup off their mother's head. Just a gross girl-girl combo! And they were so.. matchy-matchy. They were two years or so apart, but otherwise identical.. both with long brown hair and rosy cheeks... and such LITTLE BITCHES. I can't describe my hate well enough, I guess.. sorry.

As for unisex names I don't like to see on girls-- Tracey and Ashley. I love both of these names on boys, but hate them on girls.

If it's Billie and Bobbi, then I can kind of see it.

I don't like Tracey/Tracy on girls, either. I like that name for boys. Like Dick Tracy and Tracy Morgan :D

Madison. That's firmly in the girl camp now. I already hate that name but it would be so much worse on a boy.

Ashley, Courtney, and Sasha, too, although I think a sufficiently badass little boy could pull off those names. I knew a male Sasha and it was kind of cool on them.

I actually like Logan on a girl.

Leslie/Lesley on a woman. I've known more male's with that name than females (only one chick) so I've got to go with the traditionally male aspect of it and say it weirds me out on a girl.
