[identity profile] stillbefree.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] babynames
I was sitting here just now, reading the community, as I do about once a week now. I got to thinking about how do other people feel about their own names. See, I was thinking that because it took me a long, long time to feel comfortable with my own name. My first name is Amy and my middle name is Kay: Amy Kay. People say it's a lovely name, but I find it way too short for my liking. I would love to change the spelling to Amie, but my parents both hate that spelling. So what do you think of your own name? Like it? Hate it? Love it? Would/have change it someday?

My name is Mariah, I hate it. I always thought it was ugly and as a kid I wanted to be Jennifer(lol) I still don't like my name so I go by Rya.

My name is Karen. It's alright. I wish it were more classic and elegant.

I'm Greta.
The only time I disliked it vaguely was in middle school when all the essex kids didn't pronounce the T and it sounded horrible.
But, I really like it. Especially as my middle name is Joy :)

I'm Sarah Rebekah. I like both names separately (and I prefer these spellings), but I think as a combination, they kind of run together.

The double rah sound irks me a bit, but it's not bad if I say my name slowly. Most people don't notice how clumsy it sounds and compliment me on my nice name.

But no, I wouldn't change my name. I like it just fine.

My name is Samantha Jeanne. I like Jeanne because it's the combo of my grandmothers' names Jeannine and Jeanette. Samantha is a little too popular for my liking. I'd like to change it to something like Karigan or Lessa.

My middle name is Jeanne. I like it, so much better than just Jean, IMO.

I wasn't comfortable with Jessica Ann Arline and changed it to Jessica Arlene.

Amy Kay sounds cute but I can understand how you would find it too short.
Perhaps Aimee Kay?

My first name is Lauren, which was super common for the year I was born, so until I got to college, there was ALWAYS at least one more Lauren in my classes whose last name comes before mine, so I always was Lauren LastInitial. It used to annoy me, but I guess I'm OK with it. I don't know what I'd change it to if I had the chance, so I guess I won't.

My middle name is equally common, but spelled in a less common way, which I actually also dislike because it ALWAYS gets misspelled on official stuff and I have to send it back.

My name is Tara and I've grown to like it; it fits me. When I was younger I wanted to change the spelling to Tarah. *gag*

My middle name is Elena, pronounced "E-lee-nah". I actually like the different pronunciation now, even though it's very unusual and nobody ever gets it correct. :)

I'm comfortable with it but I still prefer using my nickname Emmy. To me a one-letter difference is a bit overkill for a legal name change. My birth name is Emma Leigh and basically my only annoyance is that occasionally my younger cousins will call me Emily, running my first and middle together.

My name is Megan Michele. I've always hated my first name. For a short time in third grade I started spelling my name as "Meghan" but my teacher got really mad at me, so I stopped. I don't like that spelling anymore anyway. I'd really like to change my name to Margaret and just use Megan as a nickname, but I doubt I will.

My middle name is all right. It's my aunt's name so I like it on principle.

Your first name is my middle name (spelled that way, too), lol.

And I got a huge kick when I learned Megan was a nickname for Margaret, because my mom's middle name is Margaret.

I'm Erika Megan. At one point in my life, I wanted to change it to Victoria or Veronica, but now I wouldn't. I'm so used to it now.

I love my name, and have always been comfortable with it. The only exception: I went through a period, say about ages 10-15, where I didn't like my middle name, Lynn. It sounds ok with Sharon, it's not embarrassing, I like the name now... I dunno what my deal was then. :p

Honestly, I have a hard time even thinking about my name. It's just there. It's like I don't even hear it, I just hear "my name." Trying to judge whether it's pretty or not is like trying to judge whether your mom is pretty.

There was a time I considered my name (Elizabeth) very boring. Now I think of it as classy. But mostly it's just... there.

I am the same way about my name. I can't judge it because to me it's just my name.

my name is ashley nicole. i like that it's spelled the most common way, but i don't like my name at all. i've known so many people with my exact name, there's nothing special about it and i don't even think it has a really nice sound to it. it also doesn't fit me, i feel like ashley is a name with an attached stereotype and i don't fit it at all. i wouldn't change it because it'd be such a pain, but i do wish my name was either amy, alison, or kate.

I go back and forth on my name. I like my first name (Krysta) for myself, but I don't think it's something I would ever like on a little kid (even if it weren't my name). My middle name, Jo, bugs me because I feel like it makes me sound like a hick. :P But at the same time I love it because my middle name is after my favorite aunt, Betsy Jo. :)

I'm Amanda Noemi. I used to haaaate my first name, but I have to terms with it. It's meLately though I've been thinking about how I would never think of pairing those two names together. A few years ago when my paternal grandmother died I wanted to change my name to Sofia.

My given name was Meredith Lee.

I love Meredith. It's not a common name, nor is it creative or made-up. Lee I don't really care for. I always wished it could be Leigh, which I consider the more feminine (and less, uh, bumpkin) form.

I dropped it in my married name, so that part is now irrelevant!

I'm Jessica Lynne... extremely common but I've never minded it. I mean, it sounds nice. But hell, I was one of three Jessica Lynn(e)s in my neighborhood alone, which only had about 12-15 houses. Granted, I was never really close with them (different ages) and never had to deal with other Jessicas in school.

My only problem is I've been "Jess" for about 10 years... so anyone who I've met in that time period (so.. most of the people I know, besides family and a select few friends I'm still close with) will call me Jess, and I don't like if they (for whatever reason) decide to call me "Jess Lynne Fraser" because Jess Lynne runs together and sounds bad :[ In the few times that's ever happened, I'd correct them to Jessica.

I love my name however I've always had issues with people spelling it wrong. At least it's legit and a legit spelling, though. People occasionally call me a longer version in mock-seriousness or ask if it's short for anything, which it isn't. I also feel connected to the people in my family I'm named after.

I'm fine with it, and I like the fact that it was chosen because it combines Irish names Tara and Erin, and I am mostly Irish.

My name is Sarah. I like the spelling and I have grown to like the name. It may be common, but it is also classic and sophisticated. My middle name, Virginia, used to bother me, but it distinguished me from the Sarah Elizabeth's (there were 3 in my graduating class).

(Part of) my first name is Shayla. It's alright; I've never thought about it all that much, to be honest (which means I didn't hate it, at least).

Growing up, I was forever grateful/happy that I never had to share my name with anyone in school, haha. :P

I think like most people, or most girls at least, I hated my name when I was younger. I'm Katherine Jill, but have always gone by Kate. In the 7th grade when I started a new school, I decided I was going to be called Katherine and I began spelling it as Catherine. Lots of people who met me in jr. high and early high school still call me Katherine or "Kat" as they shortened it to....*grumble*. I guess about 10th or 11th grade I decided Kate was cool again and went back to being called that. I have loved it ever since. Jill is my younger sister's first name as well...so it's never really felt like a part of *my* name. I'm really indifferent about it.

My name is Kendal Leigh. My dad's name is Ken, so I am basically named after him. My mom always loved Lee but didn't want to use the masculine spelling. I really like my name. I never had another Kendal in my class growing up. I like that my name is spelled with only one L instead of the more traditionally used Kendall. My mom didn't want to name me Kendall after the oil brand lol.

I'm Ginger Renee. I *hate* Ginger, but really like Renee. When I was in my 20's, I attempted to start going by Renee, but it just got way too confusing.

Oh - I was Ginger Rene. Yeah - the masculine form of Renee. Good going mom! When I married, I changed my middle name along with taking my husband's last name.
