How comfortable are you with your name?
Aug. 17th, 2009 03:31 pmI was sitting here just now, reading the community, as I do about once a week now. I got to thinking about how do other people feel about their own names. See, I was thinking that because it took me a long, long time to feel comfortable with my own name. My first name is Amy and my middle name is Kay: Amy Kay. People say it's a lovely name, but I find it way too short for my liking. I would love to change the spelling to Amie, but my parents both hate that spelling. So what do you think of your own name? Like it? Hate it? Love it? Would/have change it someday?

Date: 2009-08-17 10:44 pm (UTC)The only time I disliked it vaguely was in middle school when all the essex kids didn't pronounce the T and it sounded horrible.
But, I really like it. Especially as my middle name is Joy :)

Date: 2009-08-17 10:45 pm (UTC)The double rah sound irks me a bit, but it's not bad if I say my name slowly. Most people don't notice how clumsy it sounds and compliment me on my nice name.
But no, I wouldn't change my name. I like it just fine.

Perhaps Aimee Kay?

Date: 2009-08-17 10:49 pm (UTC)My middle name is equally common, but spelled in a less common way, which I actually also dislike because it ALWAYS gets misspelled on official stuff and I have to send it back.

Date: 2009-08-17 10:50 pm (UTC)My middle name is Elena, pronounced "E-lee-nah". I actually like the different pronunciation now, even though it's very unusual and nobody ever gets it correct. :)

Date: 2009-08-17 10:58 pm (UTC)My middle name is all right. It's my aunt's name so I like it on principle.

Date: 2009-08-17 11:23 pm (UTC)I love Meredith. It's not a common name, nor is it creative or made-up. Lee I don't really care for. I always wished it could be Leigh, which I consider the more feminine (and less, uh, bumpkin) form.
I dropped it in my married name, so that part is now irrelevant!

Date: 2009-08-17 11:31 pm (UTC)My only problem is I've been "Jess" for about 10 years... so anyone who I've met in that time period (so.. most of the people I know, besides family and a select few friends I'm still close with) will call me Jess, and I don't like if they (for whatever reason) decide to call me "Jess Lynne Fraser" because Jess Lynne runs together and sounds bad :[ In the few times that's ever happened, I'd correct them to Jessica.

Date: 2009-08-17 11:38 pm (UTC)I'm fine with it, and I like the fact that it was chosen because it combines Irish names Tara and Erin, and I am mostly Irish.
