[identity profile] swansong19.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] babynames
Just thought I'd share some of these with you/ask what you thought of them...our church is running a daycamp this week, and I came across some really odd names/spellings while I was checking people in.

Khristian (is usally pronounced more like chris-chen than chris-tian)
Wil (I've never seen it spelled with one L? And that's his full name, it isn't shortened.)
Brantley (I've seen it before, but it still strikes me as odd)
Madisen
Meaghan
Quinten
Tali
Sage
Tallyn (pronounced like talon with an i)

There are also 5 Devons...2 spell it Devan, the others are spelled Devin, Deven, and Devon (Devon is the only guy). We also have a Hana and a Hannah. And Devon's brothers are named Drake and Dwight, it sounds like they were stretching for D names or something :/

Also- how would you pronounce Nicola? The only one I've ever known pronounced it nih-coh-luh or nih-cuh-luh, depending on who was talking to her...but a few days ago I heard someone pronounce it nih-cole-uh, was wondering what the most common is. I don't know if that made any sense, I'm horrible at spelling things phonetically.

WIL WHEATON. That poor child will forever be making geeks think of the ultimate loser, Wesley Crusher.

I don't really like using -sen instead of -son. It does change the sound, slightly enough that I guess most people think it's really an acceptable alternative but it doesn't look as nice, nor does it sound as nice, in my opinion.

Brantley is interesting. I kind of like it but a bit too similar to Bentley!

I like Meaghan (it looks like a tailored spelling with extra letters but is actually a traditional variant), and Sage although not as a name I would use personally. Tali looks more nickname than full name to me.

Quinten and Tallyn are interesting but not my cup of tea.
Khristian is stupid. Why hate on the letter C? If you are trying to distance the name from the religion, why use the name at all because it still sounds the same!

Devan and Deven are ew, Devon is my favorite spelling.

I really like the name Hannah. Hana is, or should be, a completely different name. It is a Japanese name that means flower. I like it as well.

And I would pronounce it Nih-coh-luh.
