Just thought I'd share some of these with you/ask what you thought of them...our church is running a daycamp this week, and I came across some really odd names/spellings while I was checking people in.

Khristian (is usally pronounced more like chris-chen than chris-tian)
Wil (I've never seen it spelled with one L? And that's his full name, it isn't shortened.)
Brantley (I've seen it before, but it still strikes me as odd)
Madisen
Meaghan
Quinten
Tali
Sage
Tallyn (pronounced like talon with an i)

There are also 5 Devons...2 spell it Devan, the others are spelled Devin, Deven, and Devon (Devon is the only guy). We also have a Hana and a Hannah. And Devon's brothers are named Drake and Dwight, it sounds like they were stretching for D names or something :/

Also- how would you pronounce Nicola? The only one I've ever known pronounced it nih-coh-luh or nih-cuh-luh, depending on who was talking to her...but a few days ago I heard someone pronounce it nih-cole-uh, was wondering what the most common is. I don't know if that made any sense, I'm horrible at spelling things phonetically.

Any "Nicola/Nichola" name I pronounce nih-cuh-luh, but that's probably just my accent as well.

In Australia, Devon is what we call lunchmeat (I think equiv. to the American Bologna).

Madisen isn't too rare, although it's different. I'm folding invoices at the moment and I just saw a Maderson which I think is gross.

Actually I lie...

In Sydney and Melbourne we call it Devon. In other states they call it different things :P In SA it's Fritz, and in New Zealand it's called Luncheon (Luncheon Sausage)

I'm so glad to see I'm not the only person who gives pets normal names. Our goldfish is Gail and our dog is Catherine.

You have a goldfish called GAIL? That's classic.

We has fish called Zac and Emma back in 1997 - named after Zac Hanson and Baby Spice...

My friends have had 3 birds. They have all been named after the elders in our church - Phil, Kevin, and now Gary. Unfortunately Phil and Kevin both passed on to birdy heaven.

I used to like Devin for a boy - hate it now, lol. Hannah, eh. Drake and Dwight, no thanks.

Nicola is me is NICK-uh-luh.

Khristian - I like it.
Wil - Ewww.
Brantley - Sounds like a stuck up, rich kid. Or a last name.
Madisen - Not a fan of the name; the spelling is okay.
Meaghan - I like it best Megan.
Quinten - Not bad. I prefer the -in ending.
Tali - Eh.
Sage - Like it!
Tallyn - I love how it looks, don't like the sound.

The only Nicola I've ever known had it pronounced that way. It sounded like Ni-Cola to me, like Coca Cola.

I have a really good friend called Nicola, and we just pronounce "Ni-cuh-la" generally.

Also, how was the name Tali pronounced? One of my favourite bands, The Lucksmiths, has a man called Tali (short for Talisien, which I believe is an old Welsh folk hero or writer or something) as its lead singer/drummer. He pronounces it Tah-li, but I've never seen anyone else with that name.

I say Nicola with a very subtle Nee-col-uh. But that pronunciation is kind of masculine I think. I have a great uncle with this name and he has a Greek mother and a Russian father but he was born in Turkey (so I don't know what kind of name it is. Russian I assume). He goes by Colya.

Wow 5 Devon's and only one is male? That makes me sad.

Khristian - eww
Wil - I've seen this spelling a couple times, just looks incomplete. Like Will isn't short enough as it is?
Brantley - def do not like
Madisen - blech
Meaghan - I like Megan, I don't know why the extra A and H are needed.
Quinten - nms but not bad
Tali - blech
Sage - eh too hippy for my tastes, but not bad
Tallyn (pronounced like talon with an i) - never liked Talon, so I don't like this either!

WIL WHEATON. That poor child will forever be making geeks think of the ultimate loser, Wesley Crusher.

I don't really like using -sen instead of -son. It does change the sound, slightly enough that I guess most people think it's really an acceptable alternative but it doesn't look as nice, nor does it sound as nice, in my opinion.

Brantley is interesting. I kind of like it but a bit too similar to Bentley!

I like Meaghan (it looks like a tailored spelling with extra letters but is actually a traditional variant), and Sage although not as a name I would use personally. Tali looks more nickname than full name to me.

Quinten and Tallyn are interesting but not my cup of tea.
Khristian is stupid. Why hate on the letter C? If you are trying to distance the name from the religion, why use the name at all because it still sounds the same!

Devan and Deven are ew, Devon is my favorite spelling.

I really like the name Hannah. Hana is, or should be, a completely different name. It is a Japanese name that means flower. I like it as well.

And I would pronounce it Nih-coh-luh.
