A Dutch guy decided to name his son Nxt (pronounced 'Next') because he would be 'part of the next generation'. Unfortunately the father couldn't register his child because the government argued 'Nxt' was not an actual name (I honestly didn't know we had naming laws here). The result? The kid is now called:

Depp Nxt Borrel

...with Borrel being the last name. They say they didn't choose Depp because of Johnny Depp, so I have no clue why they did.

Borrel is the Dutch word for 'Drink' (as in, alcoholic drink) so needless to say I think this name is beyond awful.

Regardless of whether he really picked the name because of the next generation thing, the kid would have been Next Drink! Bring on the booze?

Wish I could have read the article myself. I'm trying to learn Dutch, but I'm still very much level 1. Zij zijn hebben roode bloemen is about as good as it gets and I'm not even positive I got that right. :P

Close! 'Zij hebben rode bloemen' would have been perfect ;) Now you have both 'to be' (zijn) and to have (hebben) in one sentence. But I'm impressed nonetheless!
Any specific reason why you want to learn Dutch?

Drat! I was even closer with my first guess then. I had typed 'Zijn hebben roode bloemen' the first time so there was an extra 'o' and 'to be' instead of 'they.' Only I didn't trust myself so I used babelfish to check. I know internet translators aren't perfect but I thought the sentence was simple enough. My original was wrong so I tried what I ended up posting and it said what I was trying to say. Ah well. I'm learning with Rosetta Stone so I don't have any books to consult.

I actually have an LJ friend who lives in Belgium. Most of her posts are in english, but sometimes she gets responses in Dutch. I've always been interested in a ton of different languages and I guess I got inspired. :)

In german the word " depp" means " dork,moron". For me the name means, translated, something like " moron next drink".

Depp isn't a word here, although there is the verb 'deppen' which means 'to dab'. No exactly great either, but not as bad as 'moron'!
