I just came across this really cool baby name site today. It gives you common spellings, nick names, unintended nick names, popularity, etc. The search tool is great, too.  You can choose number of letters for the name, beginning/ending letters, letter sequences and more.

looks like a pretty useful site!

something that disturbed me, though, was one of the "baby naming tips" that suggests: "So you've been hemming and hawing for weeks trying to decide between two great baby names... Combing two favorite baby names can result in some totally unique ideas. If you're adventurous parents, try out this method for yourself" and then lists some atrocious combinations like:

"For girls:

* Vanessa + Lisette = Vannette
* Jessica + Faye = Jessaye
* Sara + Laura = Lara


For boys:

* Cody + Harper = Carper
* Nathan + Shane = Nash
* Joshua + Hosiah = Joziah
* Templeton + Brok = Tearok "

I actually kind of like Lara and Nash. I'd like Joziah better if they'd spelled it properly, Josiah.

Tearok makes me think of Turok, the dinosaur killing game on Nintendo 64.

Lara is at least a real name, and I think Nash is cool as a middle name. The rest? Eww. Carper? Sounds like someone who...fishes for carp.

I have a friend whose name suggestion for EVERYTHING is Templeton. XD

She had a cactus named Templeton, but it died :( lol.
