Since Mr. Pitt is wild about architecture, I wonder if they intended Nouvel as a reference to the architect Jean Nouvel, rather than using it for its French meaning? (Especially since nouvel would be the masculine form of the adjective, no?)

My guess is that they were honoring Jean Nouvel, though I could be wrong, obviously. But "nouveau" is the masculine form of "new" in French. Nouvelle is the feminine form. http://www.ultralingua.net/index.html?action=define&sub=1&nv=0&searchtype=stemmed&text=nouvelle&service=french2english :)
