[identity profile] niamh-bronwyn.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] babynames
So, DH and I have been "arguing" about names. I like a particular name and he thinks it sounds like a "hippy" name. I don't want to tell people right out what I want to name my munchkin, but I do want to get some feed back on the following names (some of which I like, some of which I think are okay, some of which I don't like at all). Which of the following would you call hippy names:

1. April
2. Willow
3. Nadine
4. Sunshine
5. Freya
6. Violet
7. Rowan

But I don't even think Willow is THAT hippy.

Rowan will be my little girls name, and WIllow was my first choice but my Fiance shot it down.

The only one that screams "hippy" at me is Sunshine.

Sunshine sounds hippy...

My dad wanted me to be called Willow but my mum absolutely hated it.

willow & sunshine i would call "hippy"
nadine & freya are more "old school" to me
april is "dated" [the only Aprils i know were born in the eighties]
rowan is "trendy", but not in an obnoxious & annoying way. [this one is my favorite of your list]

Willow, Sunshine, and Freya. I do like Freya, though, and I kind of like Willow as well. Sunshine is the only one that really SCREAMS hippie.

Sunshine.

I have a good friend Willow. I love it. Not hippy to me.

April is dated but I wouldn't say hippy.

Just Sunshine sounds hippy to me.

Actually I like all the other names, apart from Rowan, which to me I think is more suited to a boy.

I think Willow and Sunshine could be hippy names, but Willow is much more likely to be a mainstream name.

Not exactly the same thing, but Freya and Rowan strike me as "Ren Fest Nerd" names. Willow possibly falls into this category too.

Sunshine of course. Hope this is one of your "don't like at all" names.

I used to think of Willow as a hippy name until I learned that Sarah Palin named one of her kids this.

The rest definitely seem kinda outdoorsy, but not overwhelmingly so. I can imagine a hippy with any of those names, but they're versatile.

Willow & Sunshine, the other ones are not hippy names to me at all.
That being said...I love nature-related names!

Also (not nature) but April is one of my favorite names =).

My daughter is named Willow because I wanted a "hippy name". I think names have an influence on the child. She's the most laid back, go with the flow, happy baby I've ever met.

Sunshine. I love the name Willow, but my husband would never go for it if we had a girl. :/

Willow
Sunshine
Rowan (kind of)

The others I think are nature-ish, but not really hippy names.

Violet, Nadine, and Freya are not "hippy" at all.

Willow, Sunshine, Freya, Rowan are hippyish names to me.

I like April and Violet OK, with Willow and Rowan also being fine.

I detest nadine and dislike Sunshine and Freya.
