Social Security's Top 1000 Names for 2005
May. 13th, 2006 10:37 pmFor your viewing pleasure. Or in my case, horror. My daughter's name, Lily, has jumped to #39!! Nobody was naming their daughter Lily back in 1996! I thought I was giving my child a lovely, unusual name. Argh. ;)

Date: 2006-05-13 05:54 pm (UTC)a lot of names were repeated, only with crappy spellings. woohoo?
who names their kid aryan? or german? or messiah? rohan is kind of ew, as well. dylan was 60 for a girl? that is such a masculine name. that's stupid.
my name is now 986.
lucille has been a favorite of mine for a while and it's been increasing over the years. it's still low, but getting higher. 914. and astrid was 931?
i hope they stay that low until i get to have kids. =\

(Mine's in the 700's, I'm OK with that)

Date: 2006-05-13 07:50 pm (UTC)I love going down to the very bottom, and seeing some of the seriously WTF? names on there. Montserrat, for instance, or Keyshawn. Or Jax. Or Eliseo. Also, it's seriously depressing to do a page search for "Lee" on there, because you get about twenty girls names that are "Kylee" or "Rylee" or something equally stupid.

Date: 2006-05-13 08:42 pm (UTC)I'm surprised Samantha is still that popular. I thought it was primarily an 80's, early 90's name.
I'm not surprised that my brother's name is #3. He's always in the top 5, it just moves around a little.

Date: 2006-05-16 07:59 am (UTC)I think Heaven is a less ridiculous name. My friend wrote a story and the girl was Heaven Leigh. It sounds corny, and it is, but it's not as bad!

Date: 2006-05-14 07:55 am (UTC)Some that caught my attention:
Ava- 9, not a surprise because i think it was obvious it was gaining popularity, but it's such a pretty name, too bad.
Sophia-11- steadily gained popularity over the past couple of years... i think it will make top 10 next year.
Neveah-70 I can't believe this one!! awful!!
Violet-375- think this will get higher next year too.
Madisyn-379/madyson443/Madison-3.. wtf? these first two spellings are terrible.
Zoie-567- had to call this one up on spelling too... ick.
The boys names are boring...
Angel and 32 for a boy... what!!?
& i noticed Jesus & Mary both tie at 73...hehhee
My favourites
Amelia- 84 :-(
Anais- 947, nice and low...
Felicity- 690
Juliet- 587
Anabelle- 891 (though Annabelle is 238 & Annabel is 776)
Ophelia (think it's taking over as favourite from Amelia!) & Esmé are nowhere. yayness.

Date: 2006-05-16 08:04 am (UTC)I do know of a caucasian 'Angel'- blonde haired and blue eyed, i suppose the name fits rather well! But i've always thought it was an extremely weird name choice on his parents part.

I guess it's always hard to know how much higher a name will go though. But looking at the movement trends of the last few years is just as, if not more important, than the ranking of any single given year.

Date: 2006-05-14 02:41 pm (UTC)Anyways, that list was kinda depressing. I just saw a ton of misspelled names (Makaila?!?!), a lot of those annoying "aden" names, and a ton of names ending in "lyn" (Kaelyn? Jaelyn??? What??). And what was up with the multiple spellings of Cadence, Cameron, and Madison?

Date: 2006-05-16 07:56 am (UTC)Hehe hubby's name is #9
Here's my TOP names list, in MY order, with the SS rankings. I'm putting this entry in memories, so it's mostly for me. :)
Lenora - NOT there! Nora is 277
Katelynn - 296
Madison - 3 hehe!
Addison - 107 (right by Ashton...interesting!)
Isabel - 89 (I saw Isabell. That is horrible.)
Corrina - NOT there! Carina is #742, but it sounds different to me.
Boys (Middle name Christopher or Matthew)
Austin - 37 this is my husband's favorite name. *sigh*
Cameron - 52
Dominic - 85
Asher - 288
Luke - 41
Emanuel - 268
Am starting to question my boy choices. LOL

Date: 2006-05-16 08:37 am (UTC)AHEM, anyways. Mara is #670. Alice is #414 and Lacy is #959 while Lacey is #441. Owen is #60, Henry is #103, Harry is #526. My other favorite names, not including middle names, aren't on there.
These are good numbers for me! Considering my own name is #36 now (and was also 36 the year I was born), and topped out #25 - I think that's the rank range I want to avoid. It was so annoying to always be one of 5 Kate/Katie/Katherines in any class. I hope Owen doesn't rise too much in the next 10-15 years.
