I'm having a mini crisis!

So my sons name has been more or less decided for a few weeks. Brady Allen. I love Brady and my grandpa's name is Allen. My sister had a dog for a few months like three years ago named Brady, and we laughed about it but it didnt change my decision.

Then today I find out that the dogs name was "Brady Allen" (we've always given our animals middle names). I had never known this. And I still like the name, although it bothers me that I truly didnt come up with it. I must have heard it before and stored it away.

What would you do if the same situation happened to you?

I'm thinking that I'd still really like to use Allen for my grandpa, but that maybe I want to add a second middle name to just make it different? I dont know. I'm so confused.

Ps- Its been between Brady Allen and Asa Nathaniel for the past few months.

What about Brady Nathaniel? Or Asa Brady, Brady Allen Nathaniel, Brady Allen Asa, Allen Nathaniel?

I should say, I also really like Brady Allen, or Allen Brady.

I'd stick with Brady Allen. It actually goes good together. Remember, you're naming your kid after somebody not a pet :) Asa Nathaniel is nice but I don't care for three letters names much unless it's a nickname.

I didn't realize until after we named our unborn son that my cat had the same middle name. I always gave my animals middle names too. So, we're naming our son Eli Walker & I have a cat named Ashton Walker. Makes it a little less appealing to me but we're definately keeping the name. Brady Allen is too cute, don't change his name! It sounds so good together.

If they no longer have the dog is isn't an issue - because you are naming him for your Grandpa not the dog.

But if it bothers you than consider changing it. Would Allen Brady be ok, you could still use the nn Brady.

honestly, everyone will be so smitten by the baby that they'll probably forget about the dog having the same name. But if it really bothers you then dont use it. I love Asa, very old fashioned and not popular like Ezra, which sounds slightly similar. Also, Nathaniel Allen would be lovely, too

I think it's a wonderful name. And who cares if the dog had the same name. Grandpa was the first to have it.

I honestly think you should leave the name Brady Allen. You love it, it's honoring your grandpa, and the name flows!

I personally don't like the name Brady, but if you're set on it, I don't think the fact that your sister had a dog with the same name for a brief period of time should change anything.

I think the dog is irrelevant, but that's just me. I'm not a pet person. I certainly wouldn't change my child's name because of a dog happens to share it.

I don't think it matters, but if it does the alternative I like out of those names is Nathaniel Allen.

oh my god, asa nathaniel by a landslide! i ADORE it! those two are both high on our list.

but now to actually answer your question (sorry) ... i would keep it. its not like the dog was the family dog you had for 18 years while growing up. your sister had the dog, very briefly, it makes it kind of irrelevant and i think everyone will completely forget about it once the baby arrives.

this happened to a friend of mine's sister. she named her son jackson, forgetting completely that the cat, who has been around for 12 years, is also called jackson. her son is now three, and my friend still teases her about it.

at least her dog was only around a few months. i wouldn't let it bother you if you love the name.

Just stick with Brady Allen- you DID truly come up with it, as you didn't purposely choose it after the dog, you didn't even know the dog had that full name.

My name is Maggie Ann, and I'd be rich if I had a nickel for every dog with the same name. But, I'm not named after a dog, I'm named after both of my grandmas and my great aunt, and being named after important people means the world to me.
