First thing I thought of was celery, but I don't think it's an outright bad name.
It could grow on me, but there are other names with "Ellie" nicknames that I like better- Eleanor, Ellen, Elle. Those all feel more like "real" names to me (not saying Ellery isn't real or is made up, but its not a name I'm familiar with at all).

Hehe.. ditto.. all I think of is Celery. Different, but maybe a bit out of my tastes even though I'm pretty liberal on interesting names.

I thought of Celery first, I must say, but I don't think Ellery is terrible. I like other names that give the nickname Ellie better, though, like Eleanor.

Too much like celery for me, too. I much prefer Eliana, my favorite of the "El-" names. Not altogether bad, but I've just never heard it before. It could be cute for a little one, I think.

It sounds male to me, probably because of Ellery Queen (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ellery_Queen).

When I first heard it some time ago, I thought of celery too, but after I got familiar with it I started to really, really like it :)

I love it. I'd probably spell it Ellory though.

Ellery said to sound exactly like celery, is a bad choice, I think it will definitely bring about teasing.

Maybe spelling it in a way to get it pronounced "ELLAH-ree", would be better. Though such spellings may not look good, and may make it look like a mad up name. I would try to get the nn Ellie through another name. I think Elina "Eh-lee-nuh", is lovely.

Everyone says Ellery celery, well I say Anna banana! Unless you name the kid Orange someone will find something to rhyme with it lol. I think Ellery's pretty.

Myllissa though, I don't get the point of spelling it like that, I'm sure she's had to correct people pronouncing it wrong her whole life.
