13 year-old becomes father
Feb. 16th, 2009 10:09 amBritish tabloid The Sun ran a story about a 13 year-old boy who now has become the father of a babygirl. They (he & his 15 year-old girlfriend) have called her:
Maisie Roxanne
It's not something I'd name my kid, but I don't think it's bad. And Maisie is cute for a little child.
Incidentally, I thought the story was quite shocking (I suppose that's also why The Sun was interested) ;)
Full story here.

Date: 2009-02-16 10:39 am (UTC)As for Roxanne...seriously? I can't believe anyone's used that name in the last 20 years... I think it's tacky.

Date: 2009-02-16 11:47 am (UTC)As for the name... it could be worse.

Which still doesn't change the fact that he doesn't look 13, but alas.

Date: 2009-02-16 02:25 pm (UTC)I feel so awful for those kids. I know they had sex and it's their own fault and all, but if they're having sex at 13, you know there's something going on and they probably haven't had a lot of sex ed where you're told, "Yes, you CAN get pregnant the first time." And it sounds like the little boy wants to do the right thing, and be there, but you know he's not going to be able to provide for his child, which is just so sad.

Date: 2009-02-16 02:35 pm (UTC)I feel the same way. Judging from that article, his intentions are great, but no one can raise a child at age 13.
By the way, I think Roxy would make a cute nickname =).

Date: 2009-02-16 02:59 pm (UTC)Story gives me the wiggins, let me tell you.
Anyway, Maisie. Is it a real name? Because I recall hearing Maise, with Maisie as a nickname, but I don't think I've ever seen Maisie as a full name. Roxanne is nice.

Date: 2009-02-16 04:18 pm (UTC)And I don't think Maisie will be cute after she's 10. I like Roxanne though it does remind me of the song "Roxanne" which probably isn't a good thing.

Date: 2009-02-16 06:11 pm (UTC)Maisie is very typical of the current trends in the UK... old-fashioned and very cutesy. It's not terrible, just not my style. It's a world better than something like... 'Jaydynne McKaeyla', at least.

Date: 2009-02-20 03:23 am (UTC)OT but I do feel terrible for all the people involved in this story, as much as I hate being sucked into this whole thing. Sex ed, where are you?!
