[identity profile] 0o-faerie.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] babynames
British tabloid The Sun ran a story about a 13 year-old boy who now has become the father of a babygirl. They (he & his 15 year-old girlfriend) have called her:

Maisie Roxanne

It's not something I'd name my kid, but I don't think it's bad. And Maisie is cute for a little child.

Incidentally, I thought the story was quite shocking (I suppose that's also why The Sun was interested) ;)

Full story here.

I'm sorry if this has been posted before! Feel free to delete this, if that's the case.

Wow.. reading that story and seeing photos of that child with his own child sent chills through my spine.

Name's NMS, but I have to remember they're British so what's (typically) popular here won't be (typically) popular there.

Maisie is one of those annoyingly twee names which seem to be so popular over here at the moment. Everyone seems to be naming their kids Maisie, Milly, Evie, Alfie, Archie etc. Ugh. Some of them are cute as nicknames, but not as full given names.

As for Roxanne...seriously? I can't believe anyone's used that name in the last 20 years... I think it's tacky.

Maisie is the kind of name that's popular here at the moment, but Roxanne...not so much.

The name is okay, though.

^ That pic is so freaky, his girlfriend looks like his Mum!

I think Maisie is okay, Roxanne is awful.

I'm having a hard time believing that that kid is 13 years old. He looks about 6, younger than the students I teach. I get the feeling that this story is not accurate.

As for the name... it could be worse.

he is 13? are you serious? I believe nothing... the name is alright... but that child is not a 13 year old boy... nope.

There was an update on CNN last night - a 15 year old boy is claiming he might be the father and they have to do a DNA test on the baby now...

::sigh::

I think the name could be MUCH worse. I don't like Maisie, but I like Roxanne and it would provide another option if she decided to go by Roxanne/Roxy/Anne when she's older.

I feel so awful for those kids. I know they had sex and it's their own fault and all, but if they're having sex at 13, you know there's something going on and they probably haven't had a lot of sex ed where you're told, "Yes, you CAN get pregnant the first time." And it sounds like the little boy wants to do the right thing, and be there, but you know he's not going to be able to provide for his child, which is just so sad.

Apparently, three other boys are claiming they are Maisie's father, but the Mom says Alfie is the only boy she's ever slept with.

Story gives me the wiggins, let me tell you.

Anyway, Maisie. Is it a real name? Because I recall hearing Maise, with Maisie as a nickname, but I don't think I've ever seen Maisie as a full name. Roxanne is nice.

I think it's nice that the boy has good intentions.

I think that's a very cute name :]

I didn't think this story was so shocking until I saw his picture. No way that kid is 13! My Husband's cousin got knocked up at 15 by her 13 year old boyfriend...HE LOOKED 13. This kid looks like he's 8 XP

Maisie is cute though.

This story makes me feel nauseous.
And I don't think Maisie will be cute after she's 10. I like Roxanne though it does remind me of the song "Roxanne" which probably isn't a good thing.

That story is truly unfortunate, and hard to believe. I can believe that that kid is 13, because I've seen some young-looking 13-year-olds, but I find it hard to believe that a 12-year-old boy could father a baby. And what was a 15-year-old girl doing sleeping with a 12-year-old boy, anyway? The whole situation is insane. Obviously these poor kids have some problems. And especially for the boy, he couldn't have really understood the consequences, or really what he was doing at that age... Anyway, I hope they've got some family support.

Maisie is very typical of the current trends in the UK... old-fashioned and very cutesy. It's not terrible, just not my style. It's a world better than something like... 'Jaydynne McKaeyla', at least.

Maisie is a variation of Margaret. The only other spellings I've seen are Maisy (children's book character) and my cousin's aunt with a really weird spelling.

I TEACH THREE YEAR OLDS TALLER THAN THAT.

No way he's the father. He clearly hasn't even started puberty yet. There are certain biological processes that need to take place before a boy is capable of fathering a child. They're not born making gametes.

It's not my personal taste, but I thought it was a cute name.

OT but I do feel terrible for all the people involved in this story, as much as I hate being sucked into this whole thing. Sex ed, where are you?!
