I told my cousin of your reactions to the name Shoshana Carleigh, and she now sees that Carleigh is a bit much with that spelling (That was the part of the name I disliked, not the Shoshana).
So we were thinking of Leigh names, and we came up with-

Cayleigh/Kayleigh/Caleigh/Kaleigh
Ainsleigh
Ashleigh
Kyleigh/Kileigh
Ryleigh/Rileigh

Some of these, I agree with what most of you are likely to say: The spelling looks terrible!

i despise all of those, most are actually worse than carleigh, in my opinion. how about shoshana leigh?

Hah! Genius! I like how we spent hours with our noses tucked in baby name books looking for names consisting of Leigh, but never once did it occur to just USE Leigh.

Dude. I suggested Leigh in the last post! The only one I don't mind is Ashleigh.

I think the best ones are Ryleigh, Kyleigh and Kayleigh, they look the most familiar/easy to pronounce. I'm not really a fan of -leigh names though. Leigh by itself is fine. Why not Shoshana Leigh?

Ashleigh is the best one out of those, although I like the suggestions above of just using Leigh ;)

It's not the Car part of Carleigh I'm opposed to, it's the -leigh. So other -leigh names aren't an improvement imo. Actually, I prefer Carleigh to any of these others.

I agree with everyone else, just "Shoshanna Leigh" sounds a lot more elegant than tacking on something else to the beginning to the "Leigh"...

I'm not a fan of funky spellings... and all of those look like they should have a "lee" or a "ly" at the end, NOT a "leigh"... that's just my opinion, though.

I know a Keilih (pronounced Kay-lee). I'm also not a big fan of funky spellings.

I thought she was spelling it that way to honor her mother or something? It's not like she made it up off the top of her head or something, it's not that terrible. Honestly I don't see why you're giving her such a hard time, it's her baby, and the name isn't terrible. The child won't be scarred for life. It's unlikely you'll sway her if she's made a decision anyway, she'll probably just start resenting the 'input' after a while. I definitely would, if my teenage (i'm guessing here) cousin kept trying to talk me out of what *I* wanted to name my own baby, I'd get pretty damn pissed. Besides, there's little difference between adding a Car- to leigh then adding an Ain-, Carly spelled anyway is a cute name.

Yeah, enough already. First name's awesome, middle name's fine and JUST A MIDDLE NAME. And besides, it's her child and if I were your cousin, I'd find this annoying and intrusive as hell.

I really like "Shoshana Leigh" but my favorite from the list is Aisnleigh. Except, as it's usually spelled "Ainsley" I think it's actually pronounced "Ains-lee", not "Ains-lay", so I'm not sure that really works.

Leigh is an alternative spelling for Lee. So it would be Ainsley.

It's not really as simple as just an alternative spelling, "Leigh" is also commonly pronounced "Lay", which is arguably a more correct pronounciation than "Lee" (with the "ei"). While some people may use it as an alternative spelling and expect to be called "Lee", most people who see the name "Leigh" are going to say "Lay."

Yup. i before e except after c or when sounding like A as in neighbor or weigh... it should be pronounced lay and Im done singing grade school songs. heh :)

This is totally unrelated but I am starting to feel so cheated on grade school songs. It's like everyone in the world learned a better version than I did! I learned "I before e except after C, and when sounding like A it goes the other weigh." How lame and (comparatively) not informative.

It might look like Lay, and I too read it that way in my head, but I know about 5 people with the middle name Leigh, and it's Lee.

I know a Robin Leigh, Noa Leigh, Heather Leigh and a Ryan Leigh. All guys except Heather. Interesting!!!

I think those four people have neglectful parents.

In all seriousness, "Lay" the correct pronounciation, going by the spelling. So I would say the parents of those four people fell victim to contemporary disregard for the correlation between spelling and pronounciation, just like half the country. Oh well.

I like Carleigh more than any of those. And seriously, if you were my cousin I'd probably have punched you by now and not talked to you about the baby or names again until the baby was born and named.

The only one I like.. is Kayleigh. The rest are just awful on the eyes. :)

In my opinion, those spellings are pretty bad.

She should just stick with Leigh.

I know of a girl named Ashleigh, and I thought that was really neat the first time I ever heard/saw it. This girl is my age though (22), so not necessarily part of the "let's spell names wrong on purpose" trend that tends to be going around now. It's the only one on the list that I think looks nice at all. The other look ridiculous, IMO

I think just Shoshana Leigh would be lovely.
