[identity profile] danne-gerous.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] babynames
I stumbled across this community yesterday and, after scrolling through some of the posts, I thought I'd share a few of my favorite names. Bolded are the names I plan on using for my children someday.

Boys : Fox, Rhys, Holden, Theo (pronounced Tay-oh), Callum, Naoise, Eamon, and Dresden.

Girls : Peter Rene, October Jude, Clemence, Margot, Saoirse, Eira, Emory, Joss, and Maude.

Thoughts?  And any good opinions on middle names for Fox and/or Callum?

Ooooo! I love most of there names (and the fact that your moodtheme and icon are SPN only reassure my suspicions that you are an awesome person.)

My faves are Rhys, Holden, Theo (although i like it in the traditional Thee-oh), October Jude (I love Jude on a girl.), Joss, and Eira.

Middle names? Fox Holden sounds good to me. Cant think of one for Callum

*friends you back*

And the name Dean is awesome. Despite being a huge SPN fan (Did you see the last episode? Disney-princess-named-strippers FTW.) I dont associate the name Dean with Dean. if that made any sense...

If Theo is pronounced Tay-oh, it should probably be Théo. (haha sorry if that's already been said).
I like Rhys, Holden and Jude (on a boy).
Some of your girl's names seem like guy's names. Is Rene like Renée?

I'm hoping that people are only against the spelling of the name 'Peter' for a girl, rather than the name itself, since it is also a girl's name with the spelling 'Peta' though that's a bit too much like the animal activists now, I guess :/

From babynames.com.au :

Peta

Meaning:

Aboriginal: A tree. Greek: A rock or stone. A modern feminine form of Peter. Also see Parnella and Petronel.

Origin: Aboriginal, Greek

Alternatives: Peita, Perette (French), Petah, Petra, Petrea, Petrina, Petrine (Danish), Pier, Pierette, Pierina

Boys :
Fox - Much as I love Mulder, and I do kind of think the name is cool in a weird way...I think it's a little too much to ever actually use.
Rhys - I like it spelt this way, and only this way.
Holden - Used to love it when I went through the compulsory "The Catcher in the Rye is the greatest novel ever" phase. Now I guess I think it's ok. It's a little too American for me I think (I'm from the UK)
Theo (pronounced Tay-oh) - I don't really like it with any pronunciation tbh. It's also getting very popular, over here at least. I think it's cuz there's a footballer with the name.
Callum - It's ok I guess
Naoise - unsure
Eamon - Not a fan
Dresden - hate it, sorry

Girls :
Peter Rene - I guess Peta Renee would be ok...it's not my style but at least it would be more feminine.
October Jude - October is a silly name which I kind of like, although I'd never use it! Jude on its own I think of as masculine. I've only heard it on girls as a nickname for Judith.
Clemence - Don't like it
Margot - Don't like it
Saoirse - unsure
Eira - unsure
Emory - Sounds like emery - as in emery board?
Joss - I like it for a boy
Maude - Ugly and old-fashioned

Hmm, for girls my favourite names are Cambria, Tanith and Waverly. I like plenty of others too, like Cordelia, Violet, Juliet... loads I find boys' names much harder! I like Gabriel, Rhys, Jonas, Seth, Morgan... it's hard to think of them off the top of my head!

I hate, hate, hate the name Theo--but I had never considered the French pronunciation. I actually like it quite a bit that way. Was the French movie you got it from The Dreamers? Just curious.

Holden and Rhys are at the top of my name list (although I'd probably use Reece, personally), and I love Margot and Eira.

Peter on a girl makes me think of an L.M. Montgomery story, "The Quarantine at Alexander Abraham's." "If I had been a boy my parents intended to call me Peter in honour of a rich uncle. When I–-fortunately–-turned out to be a girl my mother insisted that I should be called Angelina. They gave me both names and called me Angelina, but as soon as I grew old enough I decided to be called Peter. It was bad enough, but not so bad as Angelina." At the end of the story, after Peter is proposed to, her fiancé tells her that he refuses to call her Peter now, and he'll always call her Angelina after this.

Anyway...hello! Welcome.

i like:
Fox
Rhys
Theo (if you want to pronounce it TAY-oh, you should put an accent on the 'e') Callum

Peter - for a boy
Jude - also for a boy
Emory - i find emory to be too masculine. i like emery for a girl
Maude - maybe as a middle name

These are horrible. Peter is slang for penis. Why would you do that to your little girl?

I like Rhys, but spelled Reis. And I love Holden! (Big fan of literary names, fo sho.)

My suggestion for an alternative to Peter is Pietra.

Joss to me is also good, like Joss Stone? I wouldn't think anything bad hearing the name, I dunno where the stripper stuff is coming from.
