What do you think of the name India?

I LOVE it and think it's absolutely gorgeous.  I have no connection to India, though.  Would it be too awkward on a little white girl?

I think it's a sweet name!

I don't care for the name, personally, but I wouldn't consider it an awkward name for a white girl, in particular.

I love the name.
The painter that painted our house (we had it custom built) has a young daughter named India, and I've loved it since he told us her name. ♥

I don't hate it, but I don't love it, either. I know a family with two kids - a girl named India and a boy named Elijah. I love Elijah, but I've always thought India was a little odd.

I don't like it much... but I never really liked place names much. In my personal opinion it'd be the same as calling my daughter something like Australia ;)

Having said that - if I met a girl called India it really wouldn't strike me odd.

I think it's a pretty name.

A Dutch semi-famous person named her white child India, I never thought that was odd.

In the film "Because of Winn-Dixie" the girl is named India Opal.

India, before the name of a country, was the Sanskrit word for "river", which the name for the country originated from :)
I love both sound and meaning, I think it's fine on a white girl, it would actually be more of a pun on girl from India.

I think its a beautiful name, but I think you should have some interest in the country, some reason for naming a child this.

I don't really dislike it; I don't think that I'd ever use it, though. It's pretty. I don't think that you really need a connection to the country, you'd just use it because you like the name. And no, I don't think it'd be too awkward at all.

I think what I can't get around is how well it would (or wouldn't) age. I can picture it on a teenager, and a young adult. Other than that, not so much.

This. Although I am personally turned off from naming my daughter India because of her character, haha.

I love it, because I love the way it sounds, but I'd be kind of hesitant about using it, since I have no connection to the country, and obviously the association with the country is about as strong as you can get.

I love the name, too! I think it would be awkward to use on a white girl. Come to think of it, every India I know is African-American.

I really love the name too and think it's fine for a white kid. I'm still not sure if I could use a country name though...

I like it. I once knew a girl named Indra which is similar, and always liked that name as well.
