The last post got me thinking...
Jan. 14th, 2009 02:20 amI've been meaning to ask this for a while, and I apologize if this was ever asked, but it hasn't been asked fairly recently.
If you had been the opposite gender, what would your name have been (if you know it)? Do you like it? Would you use it on your own kids/potential kids?
Also... what's your name now? Do they relate?
I'm Erika Megan, but if I were a boy I'd be Kevin Curtis. I might use it (apparently, if my mother were a boy she'd be Curtis, which is why she wanted to pass it along to me).
I like it because I could have then joked, "Hey all I need now is a Sunshine Band!" (Because I could have gone by KC.)

Date: 2009-01-14 12:42 pm (UTC)Instead, I was named Kirra, after the beach in Queensland, because it has great surf and I may have been conceived there.
By the time my brother was born, Mum had gone off Sven and wanted to call him Nicholas if he was a boy and Brianna or Rhiannon if not. Dad hated both and named him Jack before her happy gas wore off.
My aunt later stole Mum's girl names and called her second daughter Breanon.

My younger sister Tina was going to be Craig.
I like Stephen and Craig, but Bruce?!?!?

Date: 2009-01-14 03:04 pm (UTC)They named me Stephanie Marie.
I might have been a Heather, though. They were set on naming my older sister Michelle, and planned to use Heather if they had a second daughter. At the last minute, they ditched Michelle and named my sister Heather. I guess by the time I was born, Michelle was out of the picture. I'm not a big fan of Stephanie, Heather, or Michelle, but I wouldn't have minded going by Shelly if I'd been Michelle. Ah, well. I like being called Steph, anyway.

My name now is Misty Lynn. Doesn't relate at all.

Date: 2009-01-14 05:04 pm (UTC)My younger sister was born a month early on Christmas and they hadn't decided on any names for her. She was nearly named Noelle, but then the pain wore off and mom began to worry that a child called Noelle born on Christmas would be cheesy so they called her Diana Marie.

Date: 2009-01-14 05:39 pm (UTC)Max isn't a bad name. It's kind of trendy right now, not really my style, and doesn't go well with my last name- which starts with S, so I doubt I'd ever use it. It also strikes me as being a somewhat "nerdy" name for some reason, and since my kids have genetic predisposition to being short, fat, and nerdy (from both me and DH!), I'd rather not saddle them with a nerdy name to go along with all that.

Date: 2009-01-14 06:40 pm (UTC)My name is Megan Michele. I would have been Kyle if I had been a boy - Kyle Evan, most likely, because my mom really liked Evan as a middle name. (She didn't get to use it on my first brother, because she didn't like the flow of Brandon Evan, but she did use it on my second brother, Eric.)
Kyle's all right, but I probably wouldn't use it. It's kind of boring. There's no real connection between it and Megan, other than being names my parents liked. (Though one of the names they considered for me was Kayla, which is similar, I guess.)

Date: 2009-01-14 10:03 pm (UTC)My brother, Brandon Anthony, would have been Brandy. Ugh. He got lucky. :P Dunno about a middle name.
My sister Mary-Jo Maureen would have been Joseph, probably Joseph Evan. Which I think is kind of weird because my older half-brother is Allan Joseph so his middle name would've been her first name. :/ But Joseph was my grandfather's name, so. (She actually has all family names. Mary for my mom's mom, Jo for my dad's dad, and Maureen for my dad's mom.)
My other brother, Eric Evan, would've been Hannah or Hope. They never really decided because they found out he was a boy before they really spent too much time debating.

Date: 2009-01-14 07:03 pm (UTC)My name is Hilary Renee; both of which are mutations of my aunt's and grandmother's names. My mom had some imagination, thankfully, or I'd have been Valerie Rhetta, had she gone the direct route.

Date: 2009-01-14 07:38 pm (UTC)Instead, I'm Jerika Layne. I think that Braddock Seamus O is completely bitchin', I love it. Sometimes I wish that I was a boy so that I could have such a cool name. My dad had really good taste in names. I don't hate my actual name, but it's not going to age well. I can't see myself in my thirties, or beyond, with the name Jerika.
I really want to use the name Seamus on a boy someday, because my parents never got to.

I really like the names we have been given as they have never been common names where we live. I don't mind the names we could have had either.
