I've been meaning to ask this for a while, and I apologize if this was ever asked, but it hasn't been asked fairly recently.

If you had been the opposite gender, what would your name have been (if you know it)? Do you like it? Would you use it on your own kids/potential kids?

Also... what's your name now? Do they relate?

I'm Erika Megan, but if I were a boy I'd be Kevin Curtis. I might use it (apparently, if my mother were a boy she'd be Curtis, which is why she wanted to pass it along to me).

I like it because I could have then joked, "Hey all I need now is a Sunshine Band!" (Because I could have gone by KC.)

I would have been Wolfgang! But I'm Jeanette instead.

I would have totally dug Wolfgang. I almost want to name a boy that.

If I were a boy I would have been Brian Neil. I like Brian, am neutral about Neil, and hate the fact that they blend together because of the N's. Brian is one of my favorite names for a boy and I would use it.

My mother wanted to name me Simon and, given that my brother took my grandfather's name as his middle name, if I had been the first boy my name would have been Simon Lloyd. I like it. I think it's classy.

My name is Marisa Jeanne; I don't see a corrolation, but who knows.

My dad's family kind of had a first-born-gets-father's-first-name-as-a-middle-name tradition. Mum liked the combo Mark Anthony, but nixed it for obvious reasons. She also liked Andrew Scott, but with our surname, the initials would have been ASS.

Apart from that, she had nothing but a girl's name in mind. Too bad if I'd been a boy.

I'd have been Sven.
Instead, I was named Kirra, after the beach in Queensland, because it has great surf and I may have been conceived there.
By the time my brother was born, Mum had gone off Sven and wanted to call him Nicholas if he was a boy and Brianna or Rhiannon if not. Dad hated both and named him Jack before her happy gas wore off.
My aunt later stole Mum's girl names and called her second daughter Breanon.

I, Kate, was to be Bruce.

My younger sister Tina was going to be Craig.

I like Stephen and Craig, but Bruce?!?!?

My mom didn't know what gender I was going to be, but she had a feeling I'd be a girl, so she didn't really look at boys' names. Though, she was going to name me Anastasia (nn Anya) but ended up naming me Gabriele instead.

i'm Kara Delynn, if i were a boy i would have been Ian Hayes. i don't like it, but Hayes is my dads middle name and his dad's middle name so if we ever have a boy he will probably wind up with two middle names, one of them being Hayes.

I would have been Christopher, which is quite a bit more popular than my actual name Melinda. My parents seem to like popular boys names as my sister would have been Brian (she's Rebecca) and my brother is Zachary. The kinda ironic thing is my brother would have been Mallory, which my not very popular at all in the mid-90's.

I would have been Steven Patrick, which strikes me as odd because my older cousin is also Steven, & his brother Anthony always went by Patrick (his middle name) as a kid, but apparently my dad was pretty set on the name. Instead I became Nicole Marie.

I don't mind Steven Patrick, but I don't think I'd use it on my own kids. Patrick I like enough to consider, but not so much the whole thing.

My parents didn't find out the sex before I was born, but my mom said they really wanted a girl, and never even bothered thinking about what they'd name a boy.

They named me Stephanie Marie.

I might have been a Heather, though. They were set on naming my older sister Michelle, and planned to use Heather if they had a second daughter. At the last minute, they ditched Michelle and named my sister Heather. I guess by the time I was born, Michelle was out of the picture. I'm not a big fan of Stephanie, Heather, or Michelle, but I wouldn't have minded going by Shelly if I'd been Michelle. Ah, well. I like being called Steph, anyway.

I would have been Jeffrey Michael. Eh, not my style. I ended up Melissa Marie. Not really my style either. She also considered Jessica or Harmony for me.

My younger brother is Jack Michael. She said she wanted to name him Jackson Michael, but that is kind of horrible. He probably would have been Jessica otherwise.

As I've said before, I can't remember which order it would have been (and every time I ask my mom, I forget within a week), but I would have been either Scott Anthony or Anthony Scott.

I don't mind either name, but I probably wouldn't use it.
My name now is Misty Lynn. Doesn't relate at all.

My parents actually thought they were having a boy when they had me so they had a name all picked out. I would have been Alec if I were a boy. Makes me glad I came out a girl, LOL. They ended up having to name me Leah Jayne instead which I love.

I'd never use that name on my own child at all (Alec). Not a fan of it.

I would have been Jason Douglas (middle name after my dad), but instead I am Pamela Susan.

My younger sister was born a month early on Christmas and they hadn't decided on any names for her. She was nearly named Noelle, but then the pain wore off and mom began to worry that a child called Noelle born on Christmas would be cheesy so they called her Diana Marie.

My mom was old when she had me, so they didn't pick out a name until the amnio results came back clean and also told them I was a girl. They told me I might have been named Max after some distant relative that died around the time I was born. The name that gave me was Rebecca- my paternal grandmother insisted my parents name me after her mother, so I guess the names are related in that I would have gotten a family name either way. I have never liked the name Rebecca (I think partly because I felt like my parents got cheated out of choosing my name), so I've gone by Amber for the past 12ish years and legally changed it last year.

Max isn't a bad name. It's kind of trendy right now, not really my style, and doesn't go well with my last name- which starts with S, so I doubt I'd ever use it. It also strikes me as being a somewhat "nerdy" name for some reason, and since my kids have genetic predisposition to being short, fat, and nerdy (from both me and DH!), I'd rather not saddle them with a nerdy name to go along with all that.

Just have to say I love your userpic. :D

My name is Megan Michele. I would have been Kyle if I had been a boy - Kyle Evan, most likely, because my mom really liked Evan as a middle name. (She didn't get to use it on my first brother, because she didn't like the flow of Brandon Evan, but she did use it on my second brother, Eric.)

Kyle's all right, but I probably wouldn't use it. It's kind of boring. There's no real connection between it and Megan, other than being names my parents liked. (Though one of the names they considered for me was Kayla, which is similar, I guess.)

If I had been a boy, my name would have been Michael. That would have been odd, seeing as how my mom ended up divorcing my father and marrying a man named Michael. Lol! I'm not really a fan of the name and I certainly would not use it.

My name is Hilary Renee; both of which are mutations of my aunt's and grandmother's names. My mom had some imagination, thankfully, or I'd have been Valerie Rhetta, had she gone the direct route.

I would've been Braddock(I still don't know if that's the spelling of it) Seamus O. Yes, O. I was going to have a letter as a second middle name because our last name used to have an O on it.

Instead, I'm Jerika Layne. I think that Braddock Seamus O is completely bitchin', I love it. Sometimes I wish that I was a boy so that I could have such a cool name. My dad had really good taste in names. I don't hate my actual name, but it's not going to age well. I can't see myself in my thirties, or beyond, with the name Jerika.

I really want to use the name Seamus on a boy someday, because my parents never got to.

Would have been Nicholas Peregrine (family name). I'm Natasha Cecelia instead. I like both names a lot. I've thought about using Nicholas on a future child because my partner's parents were also considering naming him Nicholas instead of the name he ended up with, so we have that in common.

As for my siblings (all younger):

My brother, Brandon Anthony, would have been Brandy. Ugh. He got lucky. :P Dunno about a middle name.

My sister Mary-Jo Maureen would have been Joseph, probably Joseph Evan. Which I think is kind of weird because my older half-brother is Allan Joseph so his middle name would've been her first name. :/ But Joseph was my grandfather's name, so. (She actually has all family names. Mary for my mom's mom, Jo for my dad's dad, and Maureen for my dad's mom.)

My other brother, Eric Evan, would've been Hannah or Hope. They never really decided because they found out he was a boy before they really spent too much time debating.

my name is Lauren Marie Juliana... but I was not even going to be that until like the day before my mom went into labor. I was going to be Rebekah Juliana Marie - but my parents were watching Casablanca and my mom made a comment on Humphrey Bogart's wife being Lauren Bacall. And my dad was like heeyyyyy.... lets name her Lauren! so they did.

but if I was a boy I was going to be Michael James Francis - which is think is nice... but I wouldn't name my child that ... James is one of my boy names.

I'm not sure if my mom had a set boy's name, because she always had the inkling that she was having a girl - and she didn't decide on my final name (Julianne Sarah) until I was born :P

I know, however, that her favorite boy's name is Eric, so that might have been what I was named if I were a boy.

I would have been Michael James. Michael was the most common boys name in the year I was born, so it's a good thing I was a girl! By the time my brother came, seems that my parents were over it because he is not called Michael.

Interestingly, my husband was also going to be called Michael until his parents had three friends who named their sons that so they changed their mind haha. Weird that we were both going to be Michael.

I'm Michelle Kathleen, but I'd have been my younger brother, named after my father: Frederick Charles. Which I like. But I won't use it even if I change my mind and have kids one day 'cause I imagine my brother using it on his son, if he has one, and then that kid'll be the IV.

Anyway, Michelle was a completely random suggestion by my mom when they were having a hard time finding a name everyone could agree on. It worked. Kathleen is my mom's name.
