Jan. 4th, 2009 05:35 pmWhat are some names from your heritage or family background that you particularly like? I am half German and my SO is fully German, although we were both born and raised in the US. We have been looking at some names that reflect our heritage lately... these are the German names I like:
Boys:
Dietrich (possible middle name for a future child)
Felix (am planning on using)
Friederich
Kasimir
Nikolaus (this would have been my name if I had been male)
Girls:
Amalie
Katja
Magdalene (my great-grandmother's name)
WDYT of these names, and what are some names from your own background that you like?

Date: 2009-01-06 11:33 pm (UTC)My grandmother's name is Vivian Lorraine, and I love both of those names, and I like together too.
My mom's middle name is Simone, which I like too. (This is a great question; I never thought about the names in my family that I love!)
I also like my dad's name, Charles. Actually, I think his name has a good ring: Charles Henry B__., Jr. But I'm hesitant to give my children that name because my fiance's last name is Brown...it would make a great joke, but I don't want to make my kids the butt of a joke their whole lives. (Same reason my mom avoided the name Daniel, which she loved.)
From your family, I like all the names, really. My favorite for the boys are Nikolaus, Felix, and Kasimir, and all of the girl's names are really pretty.
ETA: AS for my ethic background...I'm African American. I like some African names, but most names that are African American in origin I do not like. I also have some Irish in my background and I absolutely love Irish names.
