What are some names from your heritage or family background that you particularly like? I am half German and my SO is fully German, although we were both born and raised in the US. We have been looking at some names that reflect our heritage lately... these are the German names I like:

Boys:
Dietrich (possible middle name for a future child)
Felix (am planning on using)
Friederich
Kasimir
Nikolaus (this would have been my name if I had been male)

Girls:
Amalie
Katja
Magdalene (my great-grandmother's name)

Dietrich and Katja are both really nice. :)

My background is mostly Irish, and I do really like Irish names. I tend to favor the Anglicized versions of names, if only for ease of pronunciation. Anyway! Favorites:

I love Deirdre (I like the Anglicization Deidre, too) and Siobhan, and Aidan and Seamus.

One of my college friends' family is mostly Irish and she has a little nephew named Eoin Jarlath, and I love that name. I'm trying to remember her niece's name; it's traditional Irish and very pretty, too.

Haha, even though liking Aidan nowadays is something of a taboo, I can't help it. It's such a great name. :)

Eoin and Finola are wonderful. I went and peeked at their meanings on behindthename.com, and was blown over by the original spellings:
