(no subject)

I just joined the community. I'm having a baby girl in March, and my husband and I are having a tough time agreeing on a name! So far, I am thinking of:

Meadow Lorraine

What do you guys think? We're keeping the name private from friends/family until she's born, and I want to bounce it off some people!

TIA!

I love the Lorraine part, but I'm not so sure about Meadow! It's kind of cute though.

Sorry, but I don't like Meadow at all. Isn't that a name from "The Sopranos" or something? Hmm. I do, however, like Lorraine, and am holding onto it as a potential middle name for a future daughter. It's the middle name of a girl I know, and I think it sounds pretty. (Her name is Kassidy Lorraine)

I like Lorraine Meadow more than Meadow Lorraine.

More flow.

i love the name meadow - that's what my friend jennifer named her daughter a few years back. not so fond of lorraine though... unless it's a family name?

If it's 'for' her great-grandmother, then I'd agree with you putting it as a middle name. I have my grandmother's name as a middle name for similar reasons - she died a few weeks before I was born. I liked having the connection with her, whilst still having my own name/ If that makes sense.

Meadow is pretty. Probably not a name I'd use, but that's all to the better!

i think using family names for middle names is very appropriate - it's a nice connection, very meaningful! i'm using my father's name for my son's middle name... too bad i haven't picked a first name yet. :)

I agree with everyone else on using Lorraine.

Meadow just doesn't do it for me though. It sounds too hippy-ish to me. I've definitely heard worse though=)

Good job on not telling the parents. We aren't either and I'm thinking it's a good idea.

I'm sorry, I don't like the name at all. Lorraine is not so bad, especially if it has sentimental value, but meadow...is way out there. I can't imagine the kids in school being very sensitive about it. Good luck

I love the name Meadow. Absolutely love it. I'm not crazy about the name Lorraine but I've always liked how people name their kids after family members. Also, Lorraine does go really well with Meadow. I say her name should indeed be Meadow Lorraine!

i really like meadow, even though it's not a name i'd probably use. i think it sounds lovely with lorraine, and it's really nice that the name has a family connection.

Honestly, my first reaction was that I loved the name. My second reaction was thinking of how they would fare in school. Lorraine Meadow would be much more "socially acceptible" for what it's worth.

On the other hand, my name, "Ariel" used to be tortuous for me since I have red hair and I was already in elementary school when the movie came out. Now that I'm older I love my name. Though I still feel like punching someone the 3rd time in a day I hear, "Like the mermaid?" when I'm working retail. So having an unusual name could be good or bad.

I personally think the name is fine. i'm tired of all the "overrated" Mackenzie, Montana, Riley, and Page names that everyone is choosing. i think your daughter will be proud to grow up with a name thats not so common. me being named Simone, i barely knew of anyone with my name until highschool... so, i was always able to feel as if my name was MY OWN. its unique and most of all YOU love it...i say go for it!

Any chance you'd go for Autumn Lorraine??? I just happen to LOVE the name Autumn for some reason. Whatever you do, DO NOT tell the parents or anyone else--a friend of mine recently told the parents the name they'd chosen for their daughter and all the parents disliked it SO much that they've now changed it!!! Actually the original name is one of my favourites for girls and I couldn't believe the parents acting this way! Go figure...
