So... I'm finally pregnant! Yay! I'm only about 11 weeks along, so we don't know yet if it's going to be a boy or a girl (and we're not really sure we want to find out early!). My husband says he only wants to find out if we can't settle on a boy's name and a girl's name. That way we would only have to focus on figuring out one name. I hope that makes sense...

Anyway... we have a boy's name: Zachary Alexander. I don't love the middle name as much as the first, but it's what we've agreed on. His initials would be "ZAG"... Doesn't bother me, but my husband seems to think this is really cool.

It's girl's names that are driving me crazy. I can't think of a single one that I like as much as I like "Zachary" for a boy.

I like Chloe.
I like Cassandra.
I like Elise.
(I really like Bethany, but he doesn't.)

He doesn't really make up name lists, he just says "yes" or "no" to my suggestions, which is fine, since I'm not really in love with any of them.

The only girl's name that we seem to agree on actually using is Zoe. I kind of like Zoe Claire or Zoe Pearl - a one syllable middle name starting with a consonant. He really likes the idea of "ZAG" for the initials (or, alternatively, "ZIG"), but I'm not sure I like the way "Zoe" sounds with a name starting with a vowel as the middle name.

He suggested Zoe Alexandra (which I don't really like), and I've come up with Zoe Anne, Zoe Ava, Zoe Annette, and Zoe Astrid (and Zoe Inara (yay Firefly!)). I think I like Anne the best, but I'm still not sure about the way they sound...

Any ideas? "A" names, "I" names, or short names starting with a consonant?

Firstly: Congrats! And I really like some of the names you've picked out.

I think if you want to go with the ZIG/ZAG initial thing, you need to pick something with a strong first sound for the middle name, or it'll run into the 'ee' sound at the end of Zoe. I think you're right, a name starting with a consonant might be easier, but I think names like Annette and Astrid, where the focus is more on the hard N and T sounds, can also sound good.

Congrats!

Zachary Alexander is a really good name.

I'm don't like Chloe. I don't know why. Cassandra is okay. I'm eh about Elise.

Zoe is a pretty good name. Zoe Claire sounds great. Zoe with a vowel starting name is no different than Zachary sound-wise. Zoe Alexandra works in the same way that Zachary Alexander works, but if you don't like it, you don't like it. I'm not crazy about Annette, but I think it sounds the best out of the ones you've listed.

You could always go with Zoe Alleyne. ;) Or Zoe Indapendence.(YAY FIREFLY!)
