[identity profile] shyloh.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] babynames
I am so happy to have found this community. I have always loved baby names. I don't have any children at the moment, but do have 5 cats. Shiloh, Autumn, Sasha, Sawyer and Samson. It's just a coincidence that most start with "S".

What do you think of when you hear your name, or any name for that matter?

I see colours when I hear names. Is that weird? Some would say yes, but I think I've always been this way. Sometimes, its not even just one colour, it could be a combination of colours, or sometimes, I even see sparkles.

Shiloh=grey/black
Autumn=mustard yellow/burgundy
Sasha=white/grey
Sawyer=grey/navy blue
Samson=White

My name is Michelle=red

No, that is not weird at all! I associate names/words with colors as well. This is what I see...

Shiloh=white
Autumn=burnt orange
Sasha=white
Sawyer=red
Samson=navy blue
Michelle=blue/purple

Great names for your kitties, btw. :)

It's so funny you say that about Jennifer. That's my sister's name and those colors you mentioned are the colors of her eyes. Green with specks of gold.

What about Stephanie? =)

Shiloh is a great name :) I don't see colours when I hear names, but the tendency to see certain colours (or feel certain tastes) upon hearing certain words is called Synesthesia. I'm fascinated with the condition. 'Cause I'm a nerd.

I can see the connection between the names and the colours you see, though. I would DEFINITELY see Sasha as a white or grey and Shiloh as a grey or black. With my own favourite names, I can think of Kate as a strong purple, and Sam as a navy or light blue. But it takes thought and I don't actually see the colours. (Sadly.) I almost immediately associate names with literary and cinematic characters, though. It's the first thing I think of even if I know someone by that name.

There is an actual recognised condition called synaesthesia... when the five senses almost mingle. Some people experience taste or smell when they see certain words... or as you do associate 3words with certain colours.
I don't know if you have that, but it would be something interesting to look into!

I don't think of a specific color for Catherine: just deep, rich colors like Jewel tones and maybe some earthen colors.

I do that a bit too, just picturing them being written in a certain colour ...
Sage = sage green (duh :))
Elise = gold / Cerridwen = pale blue
Harper = deep forest green

Your cats' names are wonderful.
With my rabbit's names ...
Branwen = deep purple
Casey = blue
(where possible I use those colour font when typing their names, also think those colours suit their personalities)

I see names with colors too!!! Thought I was alone.

I see Michelle as blue, and my own name as pink (Sarah).

i do the same thing, especially if i can attach it to a specific person.

there is synthaesia or however you spell it, which does exist... i never thought i had it, though. so i blame it on my aura-reading interests. :D

My husband's name, Jeremy, makes me think of blue and green.
Our dog, Sasha, is white, brown and green.

My entire life, my name (Anna) has made me think of green.
And now that Jeremy and I are married, my last name IS Green. :D
