So, I'm pretty sure a significant number of you in this community have had a Cabbage Patch Doll at some point in your lives, yes? I want to know what the name was. Comment, please. :-)
I named mine Betsy. I don't know if it was the name she came with, or if just decided on it. I think the woman who gave me her might have been named Betsy...
I wanted to add too, I can't remember my cabbage patch's name but I called her Sarah. I let my son pick out his own and he picked the bald one with the dummy hanging out of his mouth... looks just like him, lol. ;)
Hortensia Pamela Samantha ? Denny Roger Bereka Melissa (her original name was Bertha, but my grandmother informed me of her purchase in a letter and my grandmother has bad hand-writing. I decided to stick with Bereka instead.) Vanessa Ema Orson Nolan Cari Joella Owen ?
Dang, I'm missing one. That makes me sad that I no longer remember all the names.
My parent's couldn't afford one and I was really sad. My mom's friend was walking down the street one day and saw a bunch of teens kicking a doll around. She told them to cut it out and relized that it was a Cabbage Patch doll. She knew how much I wanted one, so she offered it to my mom, even though it was pretty beat up. It was July and my mom wrote me a special letter from Santa saying that the kid he gave the doll to at Christmas didn't take care of it, so he took it away and gave it to a good girl like me, as long as I would clean it up and love it. It was one of the baby boy dolls, and my mom named him Willy. I washed him and scrubbed the scuffs off where they boys had kicked him around. I was elated about the doll and wrote a letter back to Santa saying I would not let him down. I got to go to Toys R Us with my mom and get on outfit - a red and white sailor onesie. The following Christmas my Nana made him a sweater with a heart on it. he was my favorite doll for a long time.
I haven't though of that story in years! I hope I get to do something like that for my child someday...
I has one, but I don't remember the name. However, I always look at the names on the dolls when I go to a store with a toy section. I know they probably use a name generator, but ugh. Disgusting combinations. It'll always be something like Amory Shirley or Karissa Blanche. HIRE SOMEONE.
I'm sure the do for most of them, but some are named by visitors at the babyland general hospital in Cleveland GA. I've been there when they had one born out of the cabbage patch, its really cute, and the audience gets to yell out names til they pick a first and middle. Those usually turn out just about as bad though haha.
I think my first doll was Dody my Mom actually got a call at 9 or 10 at night (I still remember) and was tipped off about a new shipment showing up at Toys R' US- she came home with 2 dolls (1 for me, 1 for my younger sister) she got the cute blonde one with the pacifier, I got a not so cute redhead named Dody never forget that
I have one right now, NIB on my shelf, named Nicolette Alice. I bought her solely because her name is Nicolette, and because her outfit is too cute hehe :)

His signature was on every doll's butt. Maybe that's what you remember? Or maybe you were extra special and got one named after it's creator!

Date: 2008-12-08 01:55 am (UTC)I was wicked jealous of my little sister (even though I was pretty indifferent about the dolls, being in junior high and all when the craze hit).
Hers was Juliet Suzette.
