So, I'm pretty sure a significant number of you in this community have had a Cabbage Patch Doll at some point in your lives, yes? I want to know what the name was. Comment, please. :-)
Boo to that!!! I've been having the hardest time finding boy dolls, lately. Everything is freaking sold out. It's like the 80s all over again. Mine is totally an original, and hanging out somewhere in the basement.
I named mine Betsy. I don't know if it was the name she came with, or if just decided on it. I think the woman who gave me her might have been named Betsy...
Hortensia Pamela Samantha ? Denny Roger Bereka Melissa (her original name was Bertha, but my grandmother informed me of her purchase in a letter and my grandmother has bad hand-writing. I decided to stick with Bereka instead.) Vanessa Ema Orson Nolan Cari Joella Owen ?
Dang, I'm missing one. That makes me sad that I no longer remember all the names.
My parent's couldn't afford one and I was really sad. My mom's friend was walking down the street one day and saw a bunch of teens kicking a doll around. She told them to cut it out and relized that it was a Cabbage Patch doll. She knew how much I wanted one, so she offered it to my mom, even though it was pretty beat up. It was July and my mom wrote me a special letter from Santa saying that the kid he gave the doll to at Christmas didn't take care of it, so he took it away and gave it to a good girl like me, as long as I would clean it up and love it. It was one of the baby boy dolls, and my mom named him Willy. I washed him and scrubbed the scuffs off where they boys had kicked him around. I was elated about the doll and wrote a letter back to Santa saying I would not let him down. I got to go to Toys R Us with my mom and get on outfit - a red and white sailor onesie. The following Christmas my Nana made him a sweater with a heart on it. he was my favorite doll for a long time.
I haven't though of that story in years! I hope I get to do something like that for my child someday...

His signature was on every doll's butt. Maybe that's what you remember? Or maybe you were extra special and got one named after it's creator!

Date: 2008-12-08 01:55 am (UTC)I was wicked jealous of my little sister (even though I was pretty indifferent about the dolls, being in junior high and all when the craze hit).
Hers was Juliet Suzette.
