[identity profile] andrea-brooks.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] babynames
I'm 11w5d pregnant currently.

I was just wondering what people's opinions are of the names I like so far.

If it's a girl:

Lavinia Irene (Lah-vin-ia) (Liv for short)

Moira (moy-ra)
Marion

I also like the name Hermia (Her-my-ah). I found it when I was looking up Hermione and it seemed like a nice alternative. It's much easier to spell and pronounce, but it does kind of remind me of "hernia".

If it's a boy: (my pregnant intuition says it's going to be)

Henry Thomas (could be called Hank or Hal when he gets older)

Olek
Jack (what is a good middle name for Jack?)

Thanks for any opinions/ suggestions!

I think Moira is sort of pretty. And I think Henry Thomas is nice, but I don't like Hank. I think it sounds very old... And I think Jack is sort of cute, as a nickname for Jackson. :)

To me, Jack just sounds so short. Like if it was short for Jackson (I'd imagine there's other long versions as well), he'd have something else he could go by when he was older, ya know? At least there's that option there. I do like the name though. And I like that it's a family name for you. People look at me funny when I say I wanna name my future kids after people. Like it's essential for me that at LEAST my kids' middle names be in honor of someone important in my life. I love when people give names because they're for a family member or something. :)

I kind of like Moira for the girls name. I love Hermione and there for the Hermia is kind of cute but I think is going to be really difficult for people to prononuce and spell- but so are the rest of the names.

For the boy I think Jack is too cute. I'm not sure why, but I love it! My husband suggested Jack Daniel when we thought ours was a boy ;) What about Jack Henry or Jack Thomas? Good Luck with whatever names you decide!

I think lavinia irene is really nice, but i don't much care for moira. i'm pretty much neutral on the rest, except henry thomas vaguely strikes me as an old timey name, like he was benjamin franklin's best friend or something.

I'm curious. How and why would you make the transition from Hank to Hal?

I know that.. :)
But what I meant was would you call him Hank and then just let him decide to keep it or switch to Hal?

I'm curious as to why you asked this.

Just so I can edit the entry to maybe make more sense. It makes sense to me, but I already know what I meant.

lol...I guess what I was thinking was, everyone including your son would be used to calling him one name for so long and then he might suddenly decide to go by something different? lol...
Just like: "Today my name is ______ but tomorrow I'm going to start going by ________."

My daughter's birth name is Alexis, but I have been calling her Lexie since I was about six months pregnant.

I think Henry is a sweet name. I've known Henry's before and never thought about calling Hank or Hal. :)
