Apr. 19th, 2006 12:22 pmHi, Just joined. I'm Jeni, my husband is Jason. We're TTC right now and we're looking at Riyana Jo for a girl and Elijah something for a boy.
Edit: I'd just like to throw out there...that while a lot of people here are posting with the "whats your opinion on..." or "what do you think of..." I didn't do that. I simply introduced myself and said what names my husband and I were thinking about. So if I seem overly defensive in my comments, its because I felt like I was being attacked and given advice and opinions that I did not ask for. And yes, I know that the rules say that whether you as for an opinion or not its an "open invitation" for them, but it still just threw me off.

Date: 2006-04-19 09:40 am (UTC)I've never liked the name Jo for a girl i'm afraid, although i do like one syllable middle names... My friends sister is called Sophie Jo which is kind of cute but a bit redneck maybe? lol, im english, i've watched too many cowboy movies.
Elijah is such a cute name, i like Elijah Sebastian.

Date: 2006-04-19 10:10 am (UTC)I have no clue what low cal cracker you're talking about...but Riyana comes from Rian and Ryan which are my two past best friends. Joe is my dad's name which is where Jo comes from and with such a formal sounding first name we think she needs short nickname sounding middle name

Date: 2006-04-19 03:20 pm (UTC)I think you're going to end up with little Riyana having to tell everyone how to... 1)spell her name & 2)pronounce it. Phonetics wise is says ree-anna, possibly Ree-ahh-nuh at a push.. to me at least.

Date: 2006-04-20 04:22 am (UTC)I do love the name Ana, but thats just even more confusing! 'Okay... i have a crazy spelling & pronunciation, plus i go by my middle name!' Personally, i would go for the middle name as a tribute to my loved ones.

Date: 2006-04-19 11:43 am (UTC)I personally don't think that Riyana is a 'formal sounding' name at all... I think it's a very trendy name. It's cool how you derived it from two friends names :D.

Date: 2006-04-19 03:47 pm (UTC)It's pretty but like another person said, there's going to be a lot people either not knowing how to say it, spell it, or either... maybe it the 'y' was taken out it'd be easier to see the pronounciation you want... "Ryana", because the "Ri" screams "Ree" or "Rah"...

Date: 2006-04-19 03:59 pm (UTC)I don't think it will be that much of a problem, especially since we plan on calling her Jo or Ana, or whatever other nicknames we come up with (which could be anything...my name is Jeni and my sister calls me Benny...her name is Kayla and I call her Jason, which now 6 years after I started calling her that, just happens to be my husbands name) :)
