pronunciations.
Oct. 30th, 2008 02:38 pmi've been wanting to make this post for awhile now. basically it'll be members asking others: how is [name] pronounced?. it's not really a post asking how you prefer to pronounce a name..it's just that there are some names that i really do not know how to pronounce whatsoever and i figured that i'm not alone in this. i thought this could be helpful.
so i'll list mine and you list yours. hopefully we can help each other out. :]
how do you pronounce?
aoife?
rhiannon? (idk if it's REE-ann-inn or RYE-ann-inn)
also, if your name gets mispronounced often or if you know of names that are often mispronounced, post them here.
my example: my name is hana. it's not pronounced like hannah. it's more like HAH-nuh. it rhymes with nirvana. i get called hannah all the time. =/ that's not my name!! so, if you meet a 'hana', don't call her hannah! :]

Date: 2008-10-31 12:48 am (UTC)But my mom's name... ohhh deaaar. It's DINA, rhymes with TINA! It's not Dinah. Dinah has an H on the end. When I answered the phone growing up, we knew who the telemarketers were by how they pronounced her name. We'd say, "She's not here, and we know who you are. Don't call again."
I knew an Ana. It was like your name, minus the H. I said Anna until I heard enough people call her Ana to realize that oh, she pronounces it how it looks... duh. So, sometimes I suck too.
