Oct. 25th, 2008 08:07 pmLevi. I've just read two articles on it and there were three pronunciations of it written. Is Levi generally pronounced leh-vee, lee-vee (from the same website -- they said these were traditional Jewish pronunciations) or like the jeans, lee-veye?
I really like it pronounced like the jeans, but the other two aren't quite as attractive to me. If anybody actually knows a Levi (I don't), or even has a child named Levi, how do you pronounce it?

I like Lee-veye best.

Date: 2008-10-25 11:01 pm (UTC)In Hebrew it is leh-vee. It is usually pronounced the same way when it is a last name (a common Jewish last name) but often spelled Levy.

Date: 2008-10-26 02:19 am (UTC)I know a couple of people with the last name of Levy and they pronounce it either of the first two ways mentioned. And they're Jewish, so maybe that's what they meant? Hmmm.

Date: 2008-10-26 05:30 am (UTC)Even with that, though, for whatever reason when I see the name I always first assume it's leh-vee.
