[identity profile] benebess.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] babynames
First time posting here,
i was wondering what you guys think of the name Laurence, but for a girl... ?
i personally love it, but my sister and some others said it was no good. :P

also:
I am writing a fantasy story and my main character is a boy named Elliot.
I need a second and last name for him, any ideas?
He is a modern kid, aged 16. Not from the old times or anything... just something simple and nice sounding.
Hope it's okay to post this here. :)

Laurence is a boys name. Laura/Lauren/Laurel/etc. are girls names.

And your sister is right :)

If it's for a character you could always call her Laurie and just never say what that's short for.

'Lawrence' is the sirname spelling, 'Laurence' is the forename spelling. I don't know it any other way =/

I'm half french, and the french side of my family don't get why you'd call a girl Laurence with all the masculine connotations.

(Appologies, we're a family very into names, and this comment intrested me so i read it out.)

Oh no! I knew you didn't mean that, i just find that facinating. It's why i love names so much, in different areas, a single name is popular for a certain gender. Not just a country.

Oh gosh, my spelling is so bad today =/
