Slant Rhyme
Oct. 10th, 2008 01:47 pmI was talking to my husband and mentioned that a lot of my favorite names contained the letter i and wanted to know if that would work as a low-key, almost like a secret theme, in naming our future children. I don't mind themes, or sibling names bing connected but I prefer it (the connection) being difficult for others to pick up on. Anyways.... He must have misheard me because he started listing names that started with I that he likes. Ivan and Icarus mainly. He than asked my thoughts on both. I like Ivan yet afraid the Ivan The Horrible connection. On Icarus I told him I didn't like it, in which I got the sad face from him and him asking really? I than asked him to say it with our last name, he did, and just stared at me asking so? At this point I had to start laughing while asking him if he really didn't notice any problem with Icarus Hicks!? Sadly he didn't. Saying it was a slant rhyme made it acceptable to use, while a name like Mick Hicks would not work.

I might as well ask this as well .... What are your thoughts on the names containing the letter i? Some I like include: Gideon, Astrid, Elaine, Julian. Do you think people would notice something like that? Or would most people not pick up on it?
