I'm sure it has been done before, but I haven't seen it...
What would you have been named if you had been the opposite sex? What is your name now? Do you like the name your parents chose for the opposite sex, or are you glad you ended up with the name you have now?
I am Natasha Cecelia. I would have been Nicholas Peregrine if I had been a boy--I like it okay, but I'm glad I got the name I have now.

Date: 2008-10-06 06:41 am (UTC)The other girls names my parents had in mind were Olivia, April, Elizabeth.
If I were a boy:
Jeffery Cameron
Cameron Gary
Those are my brother's names though, since I was the first child I figure I would have been named that if I wasn't a girl.

Date: 2008-10-06 08:02 am (UTC)When I was born there were 5 other Laurens in the hospital, so I got called Christine, Elysia didn't sound right with Christine, so my middle name became Marie.
I'm glad I wasn't called Lauren, but I'm not really a fan of my name or the name Christopher. everyone calls me Chrissy, my real name seems almost alien when someone uses it. I like my middle name though.
I really wish I had been given the name Elysia still, it's my paternal grandmother's name and she recently passed away. I love the name and If I have another girl, I will probably use it.

Date: 2008-10-06 11:31 am (UTC)My parents were also thinking about the names Julia and Cymru (they probably would have spelled it differently, seeing as nobody would be able to pronounce it unless they were Welsh) for a girl. But my mom says that they didn't think of that one until after I was born, so they were actually considering it for my brother, until he came out...male. I actually think Melissa and Cymru would be a terrible sib-set, come to think of it. Maybe it's a good thing he wasn't a girl! :o) I really wanted a sister, though.
But anyway. They ended up naming me Melissa Laura. Don't like it...never have. I think Cymru would have been awesome, and I'm so sad they thought of it too late, haha.

Date: 2008-10-06 11:48 am (UTC)I do not like the name Veikko. It's an oldish slang word for a chap and it's also a diminutive of Veli which means brother in Finnish. My uncle's name is Veli so I guess that's why my parents wanted to name me Veikko, to honor my uncle. My brother's name is Pauli Eerik (he's younger than me) and he's named after my other uncle who died a year before my brother was born.

Date: 2008-10-06 12:57 pm (UTC)My name is fine, I guess. Boring, though. I asked my mom why she didn't name me Margaret and nickname me Megan and she said she almost did but changed her mind. I got really annoyed. I've never really liked my name and I've always wished I had something a bit more formal that fit me better. I don't feel like a Megan 95% of the time.

Date: 2008-10-06 02:01 pm (UTC)I love the name, on it's own merits and the associations. But it really suits my younger brother perfectly, and then I get to use it honouring him, so it's ok.
My given first name I'm not crazy about*. There's nothing inherently wrong with the name itself; it just doesn't feel like me. But then all their other choices were like that, and they'd have never chosen anything that was my style, so same diffrence.
I do love my mn Clair though; it's after my elder cousin (Claire), but spelt so it's 'mine'. The spelling used to bother me, but I like it now. Good story/meaning behind it, and in a way it is mine. In the sense people don't have the existing ideas they do of Claire/Clare.
*I'm not sharing, but it's an established stand alone nickname from a root name [e.g. Katie]. Ironically of the dozen or more variations it's the only one I don't like (well there is another, but it's my awful great aunt's name so that was always out).
