I love the nickname Whit and have had the name Whitman on my list for a few months, but when I was driving home I saw Whitaker on a car and I started liking that as a full name.  I used to say it whit-take-er but I realized I like it better said whidd-ick-er.  What do you think of it?

I say Whidd-ick-er, personally. I like it. It sounds like a last name though.

I liked that name when that Baby Genius movie came out. Now, not so much.

I've known a few Whitakers, oddly enough. They said it Whit-uh-kur.

It is a last name. In the case of one, it WAS his last name and he just went by it. In the case of the other two, it was their middle name and their parents had done that "Mom's maiden = middle" thing.

It is WEIRD that I've known three Whitakers, now that i'm thinking about it.

Yeah I definitely pronounce it whidd-ick-er.
But it's cute, I like it. I know someone with that last name actually.

I don't mind it - I'm one of those people who has no problem with certain surnames being used as first names. I pronounce it whit-ta-ker though (although, when it's said fast, it kind of sounds like whid-da-ker), and spell it with a double T.
