I know you guys will give me your honest opinion...but I am due here pretty soon and we still don't have a name for our daughter to be.  We've thrown around Emma and Olivia but they're really common so I'm leary about using them.  Sibset is Kylie and Brennen and we also like McKenna...  another name that's crossed our path is Novella.  We met a little girl with this name who was ADORABLE and the name has just stuck with me.  WDYT?

I can't see Novella as anything but a piece of fiction shorter than a novel. Yeah, it sounds pretty, but it's a little silly in practice.

Love Emma and Olivia, especially Emma, and I don't care how common it is (that's my cat's nickname).

McKenna is cute although still a little trendy which isn't my style but it goes nice with the sibset. Novella is not my style at all sorry.
Congrats on the baby!

As I writer, I could never use the name Novella, but I love it.

I dislike McKenna a lot, personally, but it would probably work in the sibset.

What do you think of changing Novella a bit, to make it work with Emma?

Novellia Emma (No-vel-ee-ah instead of No-vel-uh)

I love Olivia.

...Yes. I suppose so...?

Are you saying this is a bad thing?

By most people's standards in this community, it would be :)
I'm also personally not fond of made up names.

Ah, see. I'm a writer. Not here (yet?) for 'real' baby names. So I guess I have more freedom/leiway(sp?) to do that than most (that is, most who are conscious of the crap their kids will get for their name). So I really like made up names...to a certain point.

I once met a Novella in Italy :)
here it's a very rare and old fashioned name, but like for all those names, there's a comeback!

It means "tale" in italian

i see 'Novella' (and i pronounce it 'no-bell-ah' as in, the spanish pronunciation) - and i giggle b/c it's silly. Novella's are what my abuela watches during daytime. they're what Spanish day time Soap Operas are called.

i couldn't fathom saddling my kid with that. especially in a country that has a VERY large hispanic culture/society in most major cities.

The Spanish pronounciation woul dbe No-bey-ah.

lol, although it has the double 'L' (the 'y' sound), no one anywhere here in South TX or the border towns pronounces 'novella' (when speaking of the Spanish soap operas) with the 'y' sound.

It's pronounced: "no-bel(l)-ah'

some gringo spanish-speakers may pronounce it: 'no-vel(l)-ah' with the english 'v' sound rather than 'b' sound for the letter 'v'.

but if you pronounce it with the 'y' sound that's cool too.

you say 'potatoe' .... i say 'vodka'... it's the same thing. a 'novella' in the hispanic/american culture is a soap opera. i still don't like the name. :)

Telenovela is spelled with one 'l', hence it being pronounced 'no-bel-ah'.

But I'm sure if someone had the name Novella, that would spring to a lot of peoples minds!

ya know... come to think of it i've never seen it spelled out... just always heard it...that's just how i would have spelled it b/c of the english word.

i like some Novela's (lol spelled it right) - unlike the american Soap Operas - they END!!!! rofl. they don't last 15-25yrs... lol

HAha I know! I was at a Colombian woman's house once and she was watching Passions & was all proud of herself 'cause she'd been watching it for a whole year and was like "Yeah it must be going to end soon! I can't wait!" and I had to tell her no... North American Soap Operas never, ever end, and the plot just gets crazier and crazier.

Spanish novelas are for sure way better!

ah, but no guarantees your kid won't want warm climates and move to Cali, or Florida, or Texas... lol at least prepare her if you name her that.

be like: "oh, and if latin ppl kinda laugh at your name, it's b/c it's the word for 'soap opera' in their language."

:D

I've just got to say that Novella is Italian, not Spanish. But I like all the other names you listed. :)

i don't think emma or olivia are any more popular than mckenna, and they're far prettier and will age more gracefully.

McKenna doesn't suit anybody over the age of 5 in my opinion. It really doesn't age well. I've known a few adult McKennas, and they were both really shallow.

I really like both Emma and Olivia. I think Novella is perfectly acceptable in this day and age, and it's pretty cute too.

Emma and Olivia fit best with the sibset imo.

i love the name emma, and olivia too.

mckenna is just as common but not as pretty, imo.

i would go with emma or olivia, definitely. theyre beautiful, classic and will age well. theres a reason why theyre semi-popular.

novella is pretty, in practice, but i wouldnt use it because its a fairly common word.

I don't really like the "Mc" names :-/ I think they're ugly (no offense to anyone). I also wouldn't use Novella.

Lena maybe?

Crazy because there is an Olivia, a Brennan and a McKenna in the class I'm teaching now (2nd Grade)

i wouldn't use novella, seeing as it's a type of book.
mckenna and kylie are similar, but i think they're different enough to be okay as a sibset.

I love Emma, and Olivia is nice. Though both are still in I think the top 10 or 20 of names. I am not fond of last names being used for first names, especially those I find masculine, such as McKenna, being used on girls.

How about a name that kind of sounds like a combo of Emma and Olivia. Like Amelia, or Emilia?

Other suggestions

Alecia
Cordelia
Fiona
Janelle/Jinelle
Janaya/Jenaya/Jineya

Marjorie
Muriel
Marnie

I love Kylie and Brennen, I think McKenna is a huge downgrade taste-wise. My suggestions, if you don't want to go with Emma or Olivia:
Charlotte
Chloe
Evelyn/Evaline
Gemma
Jocelyn
Leah
Lily
Michele

One of my best friends is named Kylie and her younger sister is named Amber.
