Sep. 8th, 2008 09:08 pmMy husband and I are officially trying to get pregnant. That being said... I've finally been able to coax him to talk about names that he likes now that there is a reason. :P
He thought of, for a boy, Andy Andrew C***. It is his paternal grandfathers name. Both Andy, Andrew, and the combination of the two are traditional in his family. Hubbys middle name is Andrew and his brothers first name is Andy, additionally.
We like the name of his maternal grandmother (she passed when he was around three) so, although not along the lines of our usual tastes, it holds great signifigance and meaning. That would be Grace. The only real conflict is that our niece is also named Grace.
My mother-in-law will probably flip if we don't name him or her something semi-normal so I guess I have to keep that in mind. :P

Date: 2008-09-09 04:35 am (UTC)I hate Grace for religious reasons (or lack thereof), but it's not terrible if that doesn't bother you.

Date: 2008-09-09 11:49 am (UTC)Seriously, though, just name him Andrew and call him Andy (I much prefer Drew as a nn, but yeah). If you're aware of the problems here, I can't figure out why you haven't immediately shot this down. I didn't say it was a joke, just that it will sound like one (and Andy, despite "tradition," is an okay nn and a terrible standalone name, IMO; I know a poor child whose given name is "Meggie," who will, like your kid if you name him Andy, be forever cursed with sounding like an eight-year-old).
Yeah, I actually don't mind Biblical names, but that one in particular for some reason really gets my goat. I think it's because I know so many Bible Belt women-should-be-submissive families who name their daughters this, and now it has a connotation of we-hope-this-girl-will-be-quiet-and-meek-and-serve-her-husband to me. That plus the fact that it sounds like a "filler" middle name doesn't make it attractive at all.
