I posted a while back with the name Kacey William Alexandar ______ .
Kacey wasn't a big hit but my boyfriend and I liked it until I noticed a problem.
We both hate our surnames so we plan to change both our surnames to match the one picked for our kids. We decided on my mother's maiden name, Rapley.
Kacey Rapley... Not digging the whole "ey - ey" sound.

We thought about it a bit more and came up with the name Oz.
Only thing is, I prefer it as a nickname to Osborne (my grandad's middle name) he prefers Oz as the full name.

Was just wondering what people thought... (I know it's pretty pointless as either way he'll get called "Oz")

1) Osborne William Alexandar Rapley (nn Oz)

2) Oz William Alexandar Rapley

or

3) WTF?!?! Osborne?!?! Oz?!?! I hate it either way... :P

Also any other suggestions on names that go well with ______ William Alexandar Rapley
Nothing really common or too plain, no random spellings to make it "unique" and nothing too crazy.

P.S. Alexandar is spelt -dar on purpose for Alexanda (great grandad) and Alexander (dad's step-dad). Just incase anybody missed that last time.

My grandad was Osmond and he was Ossie to three people and Bob to everyone else (including his wife, who thought his name was Robert up to the day they applied to get married). So don't bank on an 'obvious' nickname being the one that gets used!

I actually like them both... for different reasons.

Osbourne sounds very elegant and strong,
But I prefer Oz... it's fun and unique.

On the other hand, I think the two loonng middle names may be too much :S

Oz is a good nickname, but do the kid a favour and give him a formal full name for when he needs to sound mature and professional. Dr. Osborne Rapley or Judge Osborne Rapley or (heck, you never know!) Rev. Osborne Rapley looks/sounds much more... respectable than Oz, while everyone close to him could still call him that :)

I personally think Oz is horrid. Osborne isn't much better but its better than plain old Oz.

Not a fan of Alexandar, either, and I dont think it would change the meaning of the name to spell it properly. You're already adding an "r" on the end of Alexanda, so why not just pick Alexander for both?

In an event:

Benjamin William Alexandar Rapley.
Isaac
Kenneth
Rhett
Caleb

I agree with everything you said. Osborne is better than Oz, but still really bad. The Alexandar thing doesn't make much sense, either. =/ (But that could be the bitch inside me who hates all these "tribute" names.)

I think that, since you have got Osbourne as a family name, it makes perfect sense to use it instead of just Oz. Oz looks incomplete, but Osbourne looks much more formal, and more like a real name. Oz would make a great nickname, but it'd be up to the kid himself whether it really catches on and becomes something EVERYBODY knows him as, or if it remains just a family nickname. I agree with others too who say it looks better on a doctor/judge/minister etc.

Osbourne is a nice name, definitely not overused, and at first i thought 'it kinda sounds old-manish,' if i met someone with that name, i'd think it would be pretty cool. :)

How about Oscar?

Not really keen on either Osbourne or Oz but I personally would go with a longer name and use Oz as a nickname just to give him more options. I know of a baby named Oscar who is called Ozzie. Does that appeal at all?

BTW I do like William and Alexander.

1) give him Osborne as a full name, even if you do only ever call him Oz.

That's weird... I know a Casey Rapley (a female).

I think that with William and Alexandar being quite strong, traditional names Oz looks a bit at odds with them. Although neither are my style, Osborne goes much better.
