i am trying to come up with something to sway my man into digging the name oliver half as much as i do. so i had this thought today...

so... i am wondering, could levi work as a nickname for oliver? what do you think?

personally, i love everything about the name oliver, the meaning, and the nickname ollie. but he just doesnt like it and insists our kid "will be a wimp if we name him oliver".

I definitely think Levi would work. But remember, it's your husband's child too, and if he really doesn't like Oliver, then so be it. What would you do if his favorite name was Kaedinn?

Perhaps you should explain to him that someone's name does not necessarily determine their personality. Play "A boy named Sue" (Johnny Cash) for him :-p

The only "Ollies" I know are buff men with shaved heads. It gives me the exact OPPOSITE impression of "wussy".

I'll second that! The only Oliver I ever knew was kind of a bully hehe.

Hmmm. I think it could work. It might be a slight stretch, but definitely more plausible than some nicknames.

You could name him Oliver and nickname him... well, anything. Levi isn't too farfetched.

I'll go against the grain and admit that I don't really see it as a nickname for Oliver.... I guess because not only does it not derive directly from the name, but it also happens to be a completely unrelated name of its own right. It's as though you liked two names and couldn't choose between them so decided to give one name as a nickname for the other, and justifying it because it happens to have a few letters in common.

But it wouldn't bother me if I met someone who did do that, I'd just find it a bit strange.

I think that Levi works as a name on its own; I think that making it a nickname for Oliver might be pushing it a bit. They're two different things and Levi is a really nice name already.

I don't think that a kid named Oliver owuld be a wimp, but I don't like it either.

not at all in my opinion. they're two completely different names with two completely different sounds. levi isn't even in oliver.

Like half of the British male population is named Oliver. The kid will be fine!
