yes, i suppose when i post name ideas, i am looking for a little feedback.
HOWEVER.
i don't really see any reason for the total bitch comments.
i would never downright insult anyone's name ideas,
and believe me, there are some pretty HIDEOUS ones on here.
i'm sure my pointing out how bad the names are
is not going to change the fact that whoever posted them clearly likes them,
quite a lot, in fact, if they are actually considering them for a child.
just comment on the names you like
and give CONSTRUCTIVE feedback
on whether you think names will not age well
or are too popular.
any other opinions
("you're clearly a teenager because of your taste in names")
("you spelled this wrong.")
("these names are awful.") etc.
are completely useless
and are only made by people who feel better about themselves
by being bitches to others.
thanks.

Date: 2008-08-22 02:12 pm (UTC)perhaps you should write in paragraphs rather
than broken up fragments
in my opinion, those who honestly believe that people make harsh comments to "feel better about themselves" are just trying to make themselves feel better about whatever they're being made fun of for. that's like saying someone is jealous of someone they called ugly. it's ridiculous and incredibly juvenille and if your taste in names (i didn't see the post, btw) didn't hint toward you being a teenager, that comment certainly does.
telling you you spelled a name wrong is just as constructive as "this will not age well" or "this is too popular" and you're coming here asking for opinions, and if some people feel that the name is beyond the help of constructive criticism, you have to deal with that.

Actually people do. More often than not they will pick an easier target than whatever or whomever it was that bruised their ego but it is an ego thing. Someone mocked you calling your cat fluffy so then you went and called the mailman a bastard for doing something you didn't like etc. It has a follow on effect.
Insulting her wasn't exactly helpful of you either. Somewhat proves your own immaturity but well done. I hope it made your day brighter.

you feel
that people here have been
unfair,
then take it up with the mod
or just leave the community.
Because flounce posts
like this are
just a way to start drama.

apparently creativity is not your strong point.

Rayvun (Raven)
Jayn (Jane)
Izzabell (Several spellings would be correct, such as Isabel, Isabelle, and Isobel)
Elyzibeth (Elisabeth)
Brytni (Brittany)
Anybody can take 10 seconds and butcher the spelling of a perfectly legitimate name. It takes more thought and creativity to look at a long list of names and come up with the perfect first and middle name that flow well together and with your last name, don't have bad associations, and will be just as nice on the adult your child will one day become.
The parent who names their child Ayden is not more creative than the parent who names their child something less common but correctly spelled like Neil or Milo.

Date: 2008-08-22 04:26 pm (UTC)First of all, if you post your names here, you have to be prepared for people to comment on them. Some of those comments are not going to be positive. You need to be able to deal with that. If it's too much for you, you need to not post things on the internet for people to comment on.
If someone did say, "You're clearly a teenager because blah blah" then yes, that's tasteless and rude. However, I don't think that comments like "you spelled it wrong" and "these names are awful" are useless. Sometimes people don't realise that they have, in fact, spelled a name wrong, and they appreciate being told. As for 'these names are awful', generally when people post their names here, they want to know if people have a positive or a negative reaction to them.
Again, show me where in the community rules it says "You must not post negative comments about someone's list of names." It doesn't.
It baffles me that people can get SO OFFENDED because someone insults their taste in names. Honestly, I think you need to grow a backbone and stop taking the internet so seriously.

Date: 2008-08-22 04:55 pm (UTC)Every community has a certain way of running things, and in the future I think it would help for you to spend a little time reading past posts and getting a feel for how things work before you make your own post. You may find that the way a particular community does things is not for you.
In this case, the way I see it,
In any case, the members here are taking time out of their day to help you with your names. Some of us wrote you detailed explanations of why your names might not be the best choices, including suggestions for other names you might like. Even if you don't agree with a word of what these commenters say and find nothing useful about it, you should thank them for their time and be courteous. When you respond to an obviously well thought-out post with a flounce and a 'screw you, bitches!' attitude, it makes you look ungrateful, immature and, frankly, like the teenager you so resented being called.
I hope this helps you mesh better in future communities you may join. I also hope you'll decide to stick around here and learn more about names, but if you don't, best of luck in finding a better community for your personality.

and i think you're really resorting to an absolutely pathetic level to be making fun of the way i type my journal posts. wow.

Date: 2008-08-22 06:11 pm (UTC)When I first came here, I also thought some people were being a little harsh. But after spending some more time in this community, I could see they were actually having a point (in most cases, not in all cases).
A child called Addysin will always have to spell her name, may always be reminded of Addison in Grey's Anatomy and might indeed be mistaken for a boy, even if it's booming for girls right now.
A child called Hyacinth Winter has a bigger chance of getting teased than a child called Leah Rose (I'm just making these names up as I'm going).
So if people tell you that spelling a name creatively (i.e. different from the original spelling) will look as if you are illiterate, or if they tell you she might get teased with that name, it's not being rude, it's telling you honestly what could be the consequences of a certain name. It doesn't mean they are being rude, or at least they don't mean it that way (generally speaking).
Besides, you can still use the names if you want! Of course, that's all up to you. All we do is give you things to think about.
