What does everyone think of the name Belladonna? What middle name would go with it?

I think of Stevie Nicks and Pratical Magic when I think of Belladonna. I would use something short and sweet for the middle name.

Belladonna was the herb they used to kill the guy.

Exactly. She's... um... pretty hard core.

And it's a pretty bad name too - way over the top.

She's pretty hot, but I still wouldn't name a kid after her. I'm sure she's on IMDB though.

I was going to say the same thing. In one of Jodi Picoult's books, "Salem Falls", a group of teenage girls use Belladonna (the plant) as a halucenogen...

yeah...certainly nothing i'd name my daughter.

besides, i hate the names bella and donna, clumping them together doesnt make them better IMO. :P

Yeah, IMO Bella is something you call a dog. And Donna is someone with no brains and big blonde hair. (No offense to any Donna's here...)

I really like it.
But I have no conotations that the above posters have stated.
I would go with someting short and simple for the middle like... Eve or something.

I love the name Bella, it's beautiful.

I don't like the name Donna though... dunno why.

Together? Belladonna? Sounds kinda artistic to me and creative.

But then again, who am I to say what names are like that? xD

When I hear Belladonna I immediately think of poison. If I didn't have that association I would like the name.

Not unless you're Italian.

Sorry, but I think that's an awful name absolutly hidous! I sure can't think of a middle name to go with it.

Belladonna is a poisonous plant. The extracts can also be used for medicinal purposes when used in the right quantity. One medicine is called atropine and is used by optometrists/ophthalmologists to dilate the eyes for long periods of time (it lasts 7-10 days!) so it isn't what is used for the average eye exam.

The name belladonna literally means beautiful lady. Women back in the 16th-17th century (I think) used the herb for cosmetic purposes because they thought dilated big black shiny eyes were attractive. It does give you a kind of wide-eyed sex kitten look. It's a dangerous medicine though, and used at the wrong concentration, it will kill you.

I think it's a pretty silly name, honestly. Naming someone "pretty lady" is pretty condescending. (I don't care for Bella for the same reason.) The association with the poison/medicine really makes it inappropriate imo.

I'm an optometry student, so I know too much about this kind of stuff. :P

Bella donna means "Beautiful woman" in Italian...
i like the meaning but for some reason i dont like the name..
I like Bella and Donna...but not together for a name...
not sure why

Thought I'd add that it was named "beautiful woman" because Italian women used to drop belladonna extract in their eyes to dilate their pupils. Large pupils were considered attractive.

Poison. Ewwww. I don't like the name Donna anyway, but Bella alone is cute.

Great name for a character in a fantasy novel. Not so much for a person.

The first thing I think is poison. Digitalis. Not something to name a kid.

Of course, you could always be terribly clever and name her Bella with a middle name of Donna. :P

Whoa I think that is WAY too much for a first name. Its too long and just... it doesn't flow. Why not Bella Donna Lastname?

I think it sounds pretty except I also thought of the women dropping belladonna into their eyes to dilate the pupils.

Isn't Belladonna a poisonous plant? If you're OK with that connotation, then go for it, I suppose. It could be much worse.

I really think plain Bella or plain Donna would be so much classier. Esp. Bella.

With a name like Belladonna you don't need a middle name. It would seem kind of silly to be like, "Belladonna Marie."

Heh, I think poison too. Not really something I'd name a child.

Although I am fond of the name Bella, but mostly as a nickname for Isabella. :)
