OK my fiancee is 1/2 Italian... and the other part American/German/ Dutch...
and I am a european mutt hehehe...
He is really close with his Italian side and proud of it (his grandparents came straight from Italy to Ellis Island)
the problem is we like all these Italian names but his last name is very German/Dutch...

Will it sound bad having an Italian first name with a German/Dutch last name???

i dont think so, not at all. its the childs heritage, and i think its great that you are honoring that!! of course there are exceptions, as some first and last names just dont sound great together, but im sure there will be plenty of first names that you like thatll sound great with your/his last.

Since it doesn't bother Italians living in Italy, why should it bother him outside Italy? My dad was brought up partly in Italy (and partly in Africa), not speaking English, with an Italian first name and a British surname. Since it is an easy one for Italians to pronounce, no one (to my knowledge) has ever even queried it. His siblings all have very Italian-sounding first names and his two sisters' married names are British and Austrian respectively. It's fine.

Since Italian is part of the heritage, I dont think its bad at all. It also can give some variety so a name so its not so one sided :)

one of my best friends has a Russian first name and an Italian last :) and it works :)

I think it will really show off the childs heritage even more... a beautiful idea.

I don't think it makes a difference at all.
I have a Jewish first name (not overly so, because non-Jews are named it but it's in the Old Testament) and a really Italian last name. It's fun to confuse people who have no idea what religion I am. But besides that, it has made no difference in my life.

I live in Germany and here it often sounds a bit strange when people have German and Italian/Greek/Spanish/Russian/etc names..
BUT since you live in the USA and there are people from all over the world, so I don't think it would sound bad.

And I've read you are thinking about Massimo Kraatz.. it really does not sound bad at all!

I say go for it! My mom didn't give me an Italian/Italian-sounding name because she was worried it would sound too weird with our last name (which is very Irish), apparently ignoring the fact that she has an Italian name and a Slovenian last name. :(

I wish she had, though! She wanted either Gabriella, Isabella or Graziella and I love all three!
