I've heard the names Darcey/Darcy and Coley a few times lately. Both for females. I don't know if I'd actually use either of them, but they sound wonderfully British to me (which is a good thing. Love that). What do y'all think of these names?

I'm not a fan, but I can see why you would like the Britishness =)

I read a great book a few months ago with a girl called Cole in it, but it was short for Colette. I liked that.

I completely agree. I think Coley could definitely work as a nickname for Colleen!

I'm all about kids having "more grown-up" names to fall back on. Coley's super-cute when you're little, but at thirty? I don't know.

Agreed. It's why I'm pretty against nicknames as full names.

Coley is...I'm definitely against Coley, I don't like it at all. I've only ever known one Darcy, she spelled it Darcie, and she was not British. I always thought that it was cute.

I've known a Darci (female), D'Arcy (male), and Darcy (I could never figure out if the kid was a boy or a girl). I didn't like it on any of them. It always seemed too cutesy, never seemed to really fit.

Coley just reminds me of Collie, like the dog.

I like Coley spelled as Colie.
I wanted to use that as a nn for my baby, but don't like any of the full names that it would come from.

I had a Coley in a daycare. He was a boy and I found it sort of odd. I much prefer Cole with Coley as a baby nickname if you want it. Coley is definitely something people should outgrow though.

Darcy reminds me of Degrassi before that book I never read ;) so I'm good with it on girls.

Darcy is okay. Coley, however, I dislike. To me it sounds like a bad nickname for Nicole. Which, btw, I also dislike

I knew a little girl named Darcy, but that's exactly what I think of when I hear it: a little girl. She and here sisters all had Irish names, which is where Darcy originated. I've never heard of Coley as an actual name, but as a nickname for Cole (m).

They seem masculine to me.

One of my friend's parents are British and they named her Kali instead of Coley. Sounds similar to me hehe

My neighbor's niece, who is 20, goes by Coley to her family, but it's short for Nicole.

Coley is a nickname for a friend of ours, his name is Michael Cole.

Darcy sounds British to me as a last name because of Fitzwilliam Darcy But as first names, and especially on females, I don't really like either of them and they also don't sound British to me at all.

I have a (female) friend named Darcy, which is short for Darcel. I think it's a nice name.
Coley I'm not so much a fan of, it sounds like a little kid who couldn't say Nicole properly.

There's a famous British ballet dancer called Darcey

http://www.darceybussell.com/

other than that, I've never heard it in the UK.

As for Coley, it's the name for a type of cheap white fish in the UK, not used as a girl's name here!

I like Darcy. Never heard of and not a fan of Coley.
