Long time no..see?

So at work I have to ask people their names for their orders. 50 Saras, 30 Michelles, 60 Christinas or Chrissys or Christies. (those numbers are totally inaccurate but thats how it seems). Chris is probably the most popular guys name as well. Chris, Steve/Stephen or Jeff.

Then I met an Edward. I hadn't gotten an Edward! It got me thinking about names I actually like on people. I actually really like Edward on people. I really like Arthur too. I met a boy, he was maybe 10 named Kellan.

I guess it was just a funny realization. On people I probably wouldn't use Fox or Clover. But I would use Edward.

Any comments or name suggestions. how many of your "names list" names would you actually use? Like REALLY. ACTUALLY. USE!

I have names that I like, and names that I would use. I really like Yacob, for example, but I doubt I would use it unless my partner was Orthodox or from an Orthodox background, and if she or he were Orthodox, it would be... pretty unlikely that she or he would be with me. I also have some guilty pleasure names that definitely aren't list-stoppers for me, but if my partner only liked one of those names, I'd be okay with using it.

Generally, though, I know the difference between a name I'd use and a guilty pleasure name. I don't get them confused, and names I like buy couldn't see using on my child wouldn't make it to my list if my partner were pregnant.

Oh, yeah. I mean, there doesn't always have to be something wrong with a name in order to make it a guilty pleasure. I actually keep a list of names I like that I couldn't see myself using. For example, one of my notes is on Malachai-- "there is no way I could raise a kid tough enough for this name". There are also a lot of names I like that start with "Eli--", which are the first three letters of my name, and I go by "Eli". Even though naming my kid Elias wouldn't be naming him after me, I fear people would think it were, so it's out, too. Stuff like that makes it a guilty pleasure.

haha, see, i always feel the same way about some of my favorite names -- that i wouldn't feel comfortable using them or that i just wouldn't unless my partner was from a specific background. some of my favorites are very obviously hebrew names (levi, for example) and they would just sound so weird with my very danish last name.
