Long time no..see?

So at work I have to ask people their names for their orders. 50 Saras, 30 Michelles, 60 Christinas or Chrissys or Christies. (those numbers are totally inaccurate but thats how it seems). Chris is probably the most popular guys name as well. Chris, Steve/Stephen or Jeff.

Then I met an Edward. I hadn't gotten an Edward! It got me thinking about names I actually like on people. I actually really like Edward on people. I really like Arthur too. I met a boy, he was maybe 10 named Kellan.

I guess it was just a funny realization. On people I probably wouldn't use Fox or Clover. But I would use Edward.

Any comments or name suggestions. how many of your "names list" names would you actually use? Like REALLY. ACTUALLY. USE!

Right now, all of them. I haven't listed any of my guilty pleasure names on my name list.

I think I'd actually use...3 or 4 from my list. (Luna, Jonas, Silas and Harriet)

Also, when I go places and have to give a name, I give a fake name. A popular, easy to pronounce one. My name is not difficult to me but to everyone else it apparently is. lol

Names from my list that I would really, actually use, for sure (at least at this moment):

William

Susanna
Camilla
May

For the other ones, I'm mostly worried that they're too plain (Jane, Margaret), or too much (Theodora, Verity).

I have names that I like, and names that I would use. I really like Yacob, for example, but I doubt I would use it unless my partner was Orthodox or from an Orthodox background, and if she or he were Orthodox, it would be... pretty unlikely that she or he would be with me. I also have some guilty pleasure names that definitely aren't list-stoppers for me, but if my partner only liked one of those names, I'd be okay with using it.

Generally, though, I know the difference between a name I'd use and a guilty pleasure name. I don't get them confused, and names I like buy couldn't see using on my child wouldn't make it to my list if my partner were pregnant.

I do the fake name thing, too! People seem to find "Eli" really difficult, so for a few minutes I am a Franz or Noah or Milo. I also find the name thing creepy, so I think I'd give a fake one for fun even if people understood my name.

I most likely will use Jack, and Josephine will be either a first or middle name. the others depend on my s/o's opinion...

*shrugs* A lot of people ragged on my love for the names Charity and Serenity, but I'd use them (more so Charity than Serenity).

My guilty pleasure names are like Kodiak and Onyx and Polaris. I wouldn't put them on my actual name list, lol.

Oh, yeah. I mean, there doesn't always have to be something wrong with a name in order to make it a guilty pleasure. I actually keep a list of names I like that I couldn't see myself using. For example, one of my notes is on Malachai-- "there is no way I could raise a kid tough enough for this name". There are also a lot of names I like that start with "Eli--", which are the first three letters of my name, and I go by "Eli". Even though naming my kid Elias wouldn't be naming him after me, I fear people would think it were, so it's out, too. Stuff like that makes it a guilty pleasure.

I think I'd use most of them.
The only ones I don't think I'd use are ones that seem too close to my name.

i don't think margaret is too plain at all. and truthfully, jane isn't really, either. it has such great history behind it and it's so uncommon as a first name. i really like all of these names, except theodora (which is actually not that bad, but nms) and verity.

haha, see, i always feel the same way about some of my favorite names -- that i wouldn't feel comfortable using them or that i just wouldn't unless my partner was from a specific background. some of my favorites are very obviously hebrew names (levi, for example) and they would just sound so weird with my very danish last name.

i really like edward, arthur, and kellan -- they're all nice names and none of them are too common, or too out there.

i have three lists -- names i would definitely use, maybes, and guilty pleasures.

margaret/meg
anne/annie
eleanor/ellie
norah
catherine/cate
eliza
miles
colin
evan
samuel/sam
elijah/eli
caleb
charles/charlie

these are the ones i would definitely use, unless my partner had a huge problem with them. there are others that i would love to add to this list, like ruby, lily, harriet, thatcher, asa, silas, and forrest, but the truth is, i'm not so sure i'd use them, even though i LOVE them.

I'd use all the names on my colossal name list, with the exception of Samantha, Grace, Gabriel, and Sophia (too popular for use, but still gorgeous). I also could use Warren only for a middle name--it's too close to my own. Additionally, I love Avery and Meredith in their original genders (male), but their shift to the feminine (although decades apart) basically eliminates them.

I have no scruples about giving my children unusual (but always dignified) names. My first son will be Flynn Ambrose--definitely odd but still respectable. I see no problem in naming your daughter Clementine or son Griffin if you really like those names.

Other names from my list that I will definitely be using--the short list, if you will--, even if I have to cram four middle names on each child (just kidding!) include Leon, Harper, Alice, Felicity, Gemma, Theodore, Kipling, Truman, Rowan(b), Arthur, Ivan, Violet, Hawthorne, Matilda, Iris, and Vivianne. I think I need to do some list-narrowing...

most of them.

currently my favorites are elliott andrew, lillian anneliese, and catherine abigail.

this is going to sound absolutely ridiculous because the series sucks but i hated the name edward until i read twilight lmao. now it's just such a beautiful name to me for some reason but it has nothing to do with the character. i'd still never use it though because it's my grandfathers name and i don't like ed/eddie.
