WDYT of this...

A family friend had a baby girl quite recently and named her Lennon. I really hate it but other people to like it...

Was wondering what other opinions were?

Not on a girl. I do however, like it on a boy.

this for me too.

i love it for a boy, and i don't mind it for a girl. that's what my best friend is planning on naming her first daughter.

i like it Ok. you could call her Lenny

the thought of Lenny on a girl makes me really gag... but maybe just because that was my grandfather's name and I haven't known any other Lens

I think you are underestimating the thought people put into naming their children sometimes.

I think you overlook the fact the parent could easily name the kid John (and if it were a girl, something else) and not as obviously cumber him with their music tastes/idolisation/etc.

Hate it.

Sounds alot better for a boy, but I personally don't care for it.

I really like it, actually.

I knew a little girl named Rebekah Lennon... but as a first name I don't like it much.

I like Lennox better, but for a boy.

Lennon is what I plan on naming my first girl, after John Lennon, when I decided on it (three or so years ago) I'd never heard it before, now it keeps popping up!
I think it's pretty.

I actually think it's kind of cute, but I wouldn't use it.

I think it's super tacky. I don't like last names as first names OR naming your kid after a famous person's last name.

Really? I don't mind either but my pet peeve are common names where there are 5 or 6 in one class (IE Jennifer, Stephany, Justin, etc *cringe*).

my best friend named her son Lennon and it suits him perfectly.

It doesn't matter what gender it's on; to me, it's just screaming, "hey, look at me! I know the Beatles. I've listened to music from one of the billion albums they've sold! Aren't I cultured?"

[identity profile] jyl-mac.livejournal.com 2008-08-13 03:47 pm (UTC)(link)
Hmmmm.

[identity profile] idrinkacidrain.livejournal.com 2008-08-13 08:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes, I agree with you. And what if little Lennon grows up to have unexceptional music tastes?

Or wants to be taken seriously in life?

[identity profile] idrinkacidrain.livejournal.com 2008-08-13 08:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Or, god forbid, dislikes the Beatles.

Yoko might sue the parents. *smirk*

It happened to the music artist named lennon - and that was her legal name apparently.

[identity profile] robocrush.livejournal.com 2008-08-12 11:34 pm (UTC)(link)
I was thinking of using it, until my mother pointed out that many people, upon hearing it, would think of that big bad guy "Lenin" rather than necessarily thinking Lennon.

I was going to post something similar to this last week when a family came into my work place to adopt a dog with a baby girl named Lennon! =]

I can stomach it on a boy but it doesn't sound feminine at all to me.

[identity profile] kitchen-poet.livejournal.com 2008-08-13 02:49 am (UTC)(link)
Wow, I wanted to name something Lennon when I was like...13.

I think it is awful, and I feel bad for the girl since she will now always have this "super cool" image hanging over her shoulders.

I hate it when people name children directly after celebrities.

[identity profile] hopeless.livejournal.com 2008-08-13 02:21 pm (UTC)(link)
Its ok, prefer it for a boy.

[identity profile] jyl-mac.livejournal.com 2008-08-13 03:46 pm (UTC)(link)
I love it.
