A family friend had a baby girl quite recently and named her Lennon. I really hate it but other people to like it...

I think you are underestimating the thought people put into naming their children sometimes.

I think you overlook the fact the parent could easily name the kid John (and if it were a girl, something else) and not as obviously cumber him with their music tastes/idolisation/etc.
