How did you come up with your names? Did you brainstorm your child's name while pregnant, or have you had your favorites since you were young? If you've had subsequent pregnancies, did you 'save' the names you didn't use your first pregnancy for later use or did you drop those and come up with all new names? Did you think you'd use them and end up not?

I'm just curious, TTC #2 myself, but thought this might be fun to answer as well.

Thanks! :D

I had some names that I liked growing up, but scratched most of them. The only ones that stayed on the list were Lilly and Eliza (just couldn't get my husband to go for Antigone ;) ). The name we ended up using we came up with during the pregnancy. We decided we were fairly certain on the name a few weeks before her (premature) birth and then for sure (obviously) after the birth. We did change things up and where we had planned her first name to be Brenna and her middle name Rose, decided that we wanted to give her the middle name Sherman after my recently deceased cat. We decided to make her first name Brenna Rose, but I hate hyphenated names so we just gave her the two first names. We called her both Brenna and Brenna Rose.

We've kept some of our names from our list from the first pregnancy, however we now have a lot more boys' name on our lists and have all but decided against our original and only boys' favorite from the first pregnancy. I'm also more open to my husband's favorite girl's name that he's loved since childhood-- I told him if our next daughter is blond we can definitely use Alice :). We've also come up with the name that we'll most likely use for our next daughter (should she not be blond.. actually just kind of a toss up between the two). We've also decided not to hyphenate our future children's last names, a change from what we did our first child. I actually worry that once we finally conceive we'll want to scrap all of our current favorites! :(

I ended up scrapping every name I had loved before pregnant and choosing a completely different one. I had lists everywhere, practiced writing them out (and made my partner) so I could see how it looked in my handwriting, said it over and over again... and then changed my mind about his middle name and decided on that while in labor. ;]

It was a bit of a battle to find a name both my partner and myself liked, we have such different tastes.

With my second child, it took me a LONG time to convince my husband on my choice of name.

We have really different taste in names - he likes more normal names, I like more unusual names.

I was dead set on naming my son Vegas, but he wanted to name him Lee. It took me more then half of my pregnancy to convince him. We ended up going with Vegas Lee.

For our child, a daughter, we looked on the internet for names and came across Rahel. I absolutely loved it at first sight but David (my hubby) wasn't sure about it. It's the name of a character in a book series but we didn't know that at that time. It's pronounced Ray-El and I absolutely adore it <3 Finally, David agreed to it. Now he loves it as much as I do. Her middle name is Megan.

And for our latest son, we decided on Shawn pretty easily. I came up with it while we were watching wrestling xD David loved it and so did I. His middle name is David after his Dad.

We're planning a fourth child and hopefully we get a girl. I'm planning on the name Imara, but I'm not sure David will like it xD If Vegas had been a girl, his name would have been Imara.

hmmmm. i was named Alice after i was adopted. i grew up hating the name. went to Ali at 20, then ppl pronounced it; ah-LEE, so i just changed the spelling to Aly recently. ppl still pn it; ah-LEE. that is not to say your child will feel the same. + yes, i am blonde ;-)

my first daughter's name, i found in danielle steel's book Remembrance, Serena. i found it in 1983-84 + kept it till she was born in '86.
for my son, his father i + couldn't agree, so went to the library + happened upon a page where we both said, "oh no, there's only ONE name i like from this page". turns out it was the same name, so we chose that!! so when he was born in 1988 we named him Chad, with mn Dana, after his father.
for my 3rd child, i kept the girls name i had while pg with chad + used it,
Shaina Leigh was born in 1990.
me + my close friend switched names for my 4th + her 3rd. i liked Devon for a gurl + she liked Shiann. well, she had hers first + named her Devone, pn di-vonne. so i used Shianne (i added an e). her name is also a hyphenated name; Dana Shianne. she was born in 1992.

i LOVE baby names, the more unusual the better!! i dont even share my favie favs. i dont want other ppl to use them, even tho my baby making days are over, lol.
thx for letting me take a stroll down memory lane!

I definitely brainstormed while I was pregnant. For my first, I had a baby name book and I can recall being big, pregnant, and in the bath tub going over and over the book! :oD My husband and I wanted something that would possibly honor our French/Cajun heritage but nothing too "out there." It was important to me that I be able to imagine the name on a baby, child, teen, adult, and eldery person. I wanted it to "fit" at all stages of life. I came across the name "Emile" and liked it for some reason. It's very French and the female version it gave was "Emilie." "Emilie" was also given as an alternate form of "Emily", which I loved. I fell in love with the way "Emilie" flowed when it was written. We took Claire for the middle name since I've always loved it and since it's my sister's middle name. Emilie Claire. :)

With our second, Hannah Paige, Hannah was a name that had been on our first list. I've loved it since I was young and even before my husband and I got married we'd discussed both liking the name. Paige was new to the list, I believe.

In both cases, we had lists and named the babies after we found out their gender via u/s. I think for our 3rd child I want to leave it a suprise & just have a name picked out for each gender. :)

Haha, I know what you mean. It sounds like we have very similar taste in names -- Norah is actually #2 on my list for girls (after Ruby but before Anne) and Evan is #3 on my list for boys (after Colin and Miles, but before Theo).

lots of kids... long story... lol

When I was expecting my first son, the first name that popped into my head was the name I gave him in the end, but only after many months of going through a ton of other names. For my second son, my s/o and I had a very difficult time agreeing on a name. I searched baby name books and the like for months, as well as going over family names, wrote down all the ones I liked and the combos I thought best, and read them off to him until we boiled it down to four names, and after he was born picked the one that seemed to suit him best. For our first daughter, we did things the same way, with a lot less trouble. He seemed to be more agreeable to the names I was choosing. And for our second daughter, we basicly did the same thing again, but with even less trouble, by then I guess we were getting to be old hat at baby naming lol. But when we got to the hospital... I changed my mind! lol. I picked something a bit different than what we had planned on calling her. So that is how my kids were named. We never really tossed out any names because they were previously chosen. Why waste a perfectly good name? lol. Besides, all of my children were given a middle name after a grandparent. That made it all the easier. And that's how Patrick Levi, Kevin Earl, Lilah Grace, and Laurel Zoye were all named.

I'm 12 weeks and have all but completely abandoned any names I was dead-set on before the pregnancy.

When I was younger I wanted twin girls named Storm and Aurora LOL! Thank God my tastes have changed XP

A couple years before I got pregnant I knew a little girl named Elise and I fell in love with the name. I also really loved Rory (leftover from my Aurora obsession). It took until about 12 weeks for us to decide on Elise Ava for a girl, and Donald Gabriel (nn Gabe since he shares his first name with his Father/Granfather/Great Grandfather) for a boy. Ava was kind of a joke name at first. My Husband's middle name is Adam, for first born. I thought it would be hilarious to do Elise Eve, but it didn't flow well...Ava on the other hand, worked perfectly XD My Husband came up with Gabriel because we sort of wanted to stick with biblical middle names.

We'll be TTC probably next summer, so I've been thinking about names already XD We'll still use Donald Gabriel for a boy. We'll probably use Rory for a girl, but we're not 100% set on it. I can't wait! Good luck TTC btw :D
